Check out this cool mash up of The Black Keys ‘Psychotic Girl’ track and rapper Jay Z’s ‘Say Hello’.
It’s been noted that many of The Black Keys’ beats, especially off the Attack and release record, are inspired by a hip hop sensibility. Now someone has taken this thought to an interesting conclusion.
What do you think – love it or not?

Perhaps Jay-Z isn’t an utterly talentless lyricist/vocalist, as would be most other rappers you’d compare him with, but his voice itself is very monotonous & he is very commerial & mainstream, some people would go so far as to describe him as a straight sell out. (Clothing line, Owner of fancy Clubs, Sports Teams, ect. ect.) I am one of those people. I think the facts speak for themselves. I agree completely with the above statements about the Hip-hop influences audible in Attack & Release, also I acknowledge that Dan & Pat as hip-hop fans themselves, them saying so in various interviews. I am a hip-hop fan myself. One thing I’ve loved & I’ve noticed so many others have come to love about The Black Keys is their untainted passion for playing & making REAL MUSIC. That concept however isn’t neccessarily seen as a huge “money maker” to the big wigs dictating the mediums of popular music. There are defintely great artists in the world of Hip-Hop, that share the same musical ideals of TBK no doubt. (The Roots for example) I however, don’t regard Jay-Z as one of ‘em. We don’t need to The Black Keys (The peoples music, OUR music) with the likes of pop-rap like Jay-Z. If Jay-Z wants to make some tunes with guys who actually play instruments let him make some more elevator-rap with Coldplay!
@johnny Thanks for your thoughts.
It should be noted that, as far as I know, neither Jay Z nor The Black Keys put the track together. Someone else simply mashed them together for kicks.
