The Black Keys (or rather their website administrator) have removed the band’s fan forum message boards. This single line statement, on the page where the fan message board was hosted on the BlackKeys.com website, gives notification of the removal – http://www.theblackkeys.com/forum/index.php:
We have removed the message board, but encourage fans to create their own elsewhere. Thank you, The Black Keys
For the last few months many fans had noticed the lack of admin involvement on the boards and the lack of removal of spam and random porn posts. Perhaps this prompted the removal of the boards? Maybe it all just got too hard and unwieldy, yet long term forum members could have been asked to moderate.
My latest theory is simply this was an advance move before the site was flipped to a new look for the new album coming out in April 2010.
Comment is being sort from The Black Keys management.
It’s a real shame since the forum boards were a good resource and place for fans to interact. Some fans had posted more than 1000+ times.
Clearly the band are hoping the message boards will be re-created by a fan(s) external to their site. They clearly have no future desire to administrate or host the boards and it is a final decision. Kind of a strange thing to do since it brings so many fans regularly to their site and by default makes it easy for the band to communicate with fans at short notice.

What a shame, I wish they had given warning a week or so prior… it would have been a lot easier to organize something with the other forumers.
Would have been cool to get notice. There were a lot of good resources there.

You’re right, how does anyone even get in touch with everyone who used to contribute to the forum to coordinate them to continue the boards elsewhere?
@thelengths yeah, sooo many cool resources were on there. The collective shared info of all their fans deleted. What a waste.
I’m just hoping the band has some bigger better idea planned. You would think they would have made a transition and announced if they did.

this is so damn sad, i can’t believe it!? I agree, a small warning message so we could organize something new would be better.
Yeah, I was completely shocked. It would have been nice to have some notice so that we could huddle up and make a plan to regroup somewhere else.
So is anybody able to create a new forum elsewhere, i have totally no clue how to create a board!? (I’m happy that i found this site so we can discuss some things) What about you guys who are running this page?

I was gutted to see we were given no warning about this, so I made a new one at theblackkeys.freeforums.org so I hope we can make it as good (or better!) as the old one was.
Join up if you’re interested – I’m hoping we can get it going soon, it’s online and up and running but of course is a bit sparse right now as I’m the only member.

Glad i came across this. I’ve been going through withdrawal symptoms. The worst part is all the tabs and other resources are likely vapor. What were their admins thinking? Crazy bad PR
BTW given the possible reasons the official forum was shut down, I, and I’m sure a number of others would be happy to volunteer to mod or admin or do any number of things.

Glad someone started something else up, I was shocked to see that the board was gone. There was a pretty good community going on the original board (with some notable exceptions), it’s a shame that all that is lost.
Oh well, keep moving forward I guess…
