The song ‘Ohio’, which is not on The Black Keys’ new album ‘Brothers’ which is to be released on May 18, 2010, is now available as a free download when you sign up to The Black Keys’ official website mailing list over at http://theblackkeys.com
The Black Keys’ had previously advertised ‘Ohio’ would be bundled as an exclusive bonus track with the iTunes download version of the album.
Mysteriously, ‘Ohio’ was later removed as part of the download. Releasing it for free is a good way to get engagement from their burgeoning audience and keeping those who have pre-ordered the album via itunes happy at the same time.
The song is also on a bonus 7″ inch release which a lucky 200 people who bought The Black Keys Howling For You 12″ vinyl release on Record Store Day 2010.
Listen to Ohio hereEven if you’ve previously signed up to the website mailing list there’s an option to download the song.
The track is a real banger with, you guessed it, a swirling Ohio chant at the start and ending in psych-rock flourishes. The Black Keys, of course, are from Akron, Ohio.
I dare say it’s bound to be an anthemic sing-a-long on July 24 when the band plays the Nautica Pavillion in Cleveland. Dan and Pat will surely not be let out of the house without playing this tune.
