thanks for the post nappy...like JF, I too am curious how they were received by the jam band crowd??

i think even if the boys were asshole rock stars i would still dig their music, but i would not be HERE posting about them or telling friends about "these two guys from akron"...but then again maybe their music wouldn't have the soul and feeling and raw power to draw me in like it does. either way, their midwestern roots and proper upbringing shine through to make them who they are and should always be...no matter where they live. Kudos to the Auerbach and Carney families for setting their kids on the right path and letting them follow their dreams.

nappy de merde - 1 day ago »
I stopped by moe.down on my way to Massachusetts. It's the first Jam Band festival I've been to, and it was eerily reminiscent of my youth. A lot of tie dye, patchouli, frisbees, hula hoops and jiggley boobs. There were a lot of bands that tried to sound Deadish, but mostly didn't make it, and one little girl with a whole r&b group behind her that sounded like Lydia Pence(In Cold Blood). The setting was beautiful, and the whole "scene" really was great fun(although it did make me feel my age). The sound was, hands down, the best for an outdoor festival, that I've been to in the Black Keys era. No matter where I stood, the sound was loud, full, balanced and crisp.
TBK were different than everybody else there, and I think they played a very good set. The gate was about 6500, and we laughed afterwords, that the boys had created 6500 new fans who'd steal their music off the internet. C'est la vie.
The thing I came away with, however, that really sticks out, is how terrific Dan and Pat are. They're just good kids. They try very hard not to get caught up in their celebrity, and to just be normal guys. I'm not saying they're perfect, but they're a lot more perfect than most would be in their situation. They're still passionate about what they do, and they don't take their fans or their good fortune for granted.
I'm glad I stopped. It was good seeing them.

Good stuff Mr A.

I agree wholeheartedly with that last part. When I met Patrick last month he just started talking to me like we'd known each other for years, telling me how he was getting major stagefright at Lolla and whatnot. Super cool guy, super nice, not trying to sound like a badass or be someone he isn't. And I was so overcome with superfan-geekdom that I forgot to introduce my wife, and he made sure to introduce himself and was very genuinely nice. Snazzy dresser too! heh. Anyways that's my story. <img src="http://theblackkeysfanlounge.com/forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_razz.gif" title=":P" class="bb_smilies" />

Thanks April, but what I am is a lucky dad. I've got a good friend who's got a 12 year old daughter with Apert's Syndrome. She needs constant care, and I've never seen him lose his temper or get down. He's the best dad ever.

I was lucky enough to be in the pit for both the Indy and Cincy shows and left with an even greater appreciation for the guys. It was great to see Dan chatting with the Whigs' bass player on the side of the stage during the KOL set in Indy and see both of them watching some of the Whigs set before they went on in Cincy. Even with all of their success, they were still taking the time to be supportive of the "little guys" on the tour.

This weekend made my 4th time seeing them live and they have been FANTASTIC every time. They really seem to put it all out there every night.

nappy de merde - 13 hours ago »
They're still passionate about what they do, and they don't take their fans or their good fortune for granted.

And this is a huge part of why we love them. Or why I do, anyway. I was talking to a friend the other day about this very thing, how passionate they are about the music. As I told my friend, of all the performances I've seen, whether live, on DVD, on YouTube or whatever, I have never seen them phone it in. I can't say that about many bands at all, let alone a band who's been playing together for nearly a decade.

(In the same conversation, I also stated that they are kings of the Holy Shit Moment - that moment that is not often experienced in music as a whole nearly enough, where all the elements come together to blow the listener away on an emotional, gut level where all the listener can do is just stand there with a slack jaw and go, "Holy shit!" Most artists are lucky to achieve this even once in their careers, but TBK deliver Holy Shit Moments with stunning regularity.)

Also, from one parent to another, you may be one of the best dads ever. Just, you know, putting that out there as an idea.
