I&#39;m pretty sure there&#39;s a Borders bookstore there, but depending on what time you arrive it may be closed. There&#39;s a Starbucks, so that&#39;s a good last resort - at least they have snacks/drinks and it&#39;s warm inside. There&#39;s a badass army surplus store over there too but it will likely be closed by the time you&#39;re in that area.</p> <p>Bring a camera and take some photos maybe? That would eat up some time. Just use your head - there will be homeless folks out and about and many will be intoxicated and acting stupid. No need to be frightened, just be firm but polite. Don&#39;t even stop to listen to their bullshit sob-story, just continuing walking and say &quot;sorry man&quot; or somthing like that.</p> <p>Also be advised there is a hippy jam band show accross the street at the Aragon Ballroom so you may see some real shabby granola-folk wandering around too. They&#39;ll likely also be intoxicated but much more friendly and harmless.</p> <p>There isn&#39;t a whole lot to do up there but I bet you will find a bar or food spot to chill at. Just stay on Broadway. From the Riv, walk south on Broadway and there are shops and bars. Not sure what will be open on NYE though. The bars may have cover charges and all-you-can-drink specials so you&#39;ll have to find a less-fancy dive-bar kind of place to avoid such cover charges and whatnot.
