Every time you see a list like this and don't see TBK on it you breathe a little sigh of relief. Protective...not at all. Leary on the whole Kings of Leon link, awesome new music videos, promotional fuck ups and aggravated rape attempts by the record company....yes Posted 2 years ago #

And all I meant by those sighs getting few and far between is that I think they will certainly start popping up on those lists, which isn't a bad thing. Posted 2 years ago #

Just cuz they're touring with KOL doens't mean their going to suddenly become U2.. relax... they're just growing to a wider audience. And as stated, in the actual vids, those aren't videos, they're ads... I went and saw Dan Auerbach in Montreal last fall and it wasn't even sold out. It was an amazing show and he only played for like 200 people. It had barely any promotion and that was the result. These guys deserve to be bigger, let them get their shot. Haha rape attempts? I guess that's a reference to annoying douches at their shows... I agree that can get annoying, but whatever, such is the price of fame. It's rock'n'roll, man. Posted 2 years ago #

Anyways, I admit that mostly everyone on this board has been a fan for waaayyy longer than me (honestly I've only been listening to TBK for a couple of years) and I understand the whole "we were here first" mentality... but the fact that you are such a hardcore fan means that you get priviledges like all the promotions and guestlists on this site, etc. A bigger fanbase won't take that away from you! Not trying to pick fights, much respect to all, especially thhe most diehard TBK fans... I just think that quite frankly, the boys really deserve to blow up. Posted 2 years ago #

Has anyone checked out any of those bands? I know Band of Horses is opening for Pearl Jam, but a lot of the newbies i've never even seen pop up around the web. http://www.davidfoustinc.com.....I wouldn't click it either Posted 2 years ago #

The albums that have me curious are Alejandro Escovado, The Roots, Big Boi, Tom Petty, Band of Horses and Arcade Fire... but yeah, a lot of those names are new to me too. Posted 2 years ago #

Rape attempts made no reference to dbags at concerts. It refers to WB making me and all other "die hard fans" as you call us buy the upcoming release 6 times to receive a different little tid bit each time, not come through on promised promtional "gimmicks", etc... I could give shit less whether or not they blow up. I wish them nothing but success, money, and all the wonders that come with being rich. But when you've been a die hard fan and notice real differences with this release, and none for them for the better, You tend to get a little perturbed. I agree though, we should just turn our backs to these things, and just ask that they use KY jelly before going deep. Posted 2 years ago #

Well... I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree... since I think Brothers is the best Black Keys album I've heard. Posted 2 years ago #

They do deserve to blow up and be big like all the great rockstars that came before them and paved the way. They deserve to be one of those bands that are household names and staples on classic rock radio. They deserve to (and will) live on forever through their music long after they are gone. And on the other side of the coin, the longtime die-hard original fans do have a right to feel protective/jealous/whatever. I mean let's face it, where were all of these new guys 6 or 7 years ago? Why are they just now liking the band? You can't argue with that. I'm not saying anyone is better or worse or whatever, but the fact is that MANY people only just recently started liking the Black Keys, and why is that? Why didn't they like them all along? Good question to think deeply about if you happen to be one of these new fans. Did your taste in music recently change? If so, is it a legitimate change in your musical tastes or are you just doing what's "cool" right now? Also if it weren't for the original fans, there would be no TBK. If no one dug them, and no one bought their albums, and no one went to see them play, you think they would have lasted this long? Doubtful. But if they didn't have new fans, and a growing fanbase, they also might throw in the towel. Again, I'm not saying anyone is right. I'm just saying I understand the situation. You're going to have old-timers saying "I was here first" and you're going to have new kids saying "so what?". Both sides are important, and both points are valid. Dont hate you at all. If your preference is to take it the way I described, thats your choice. I just imagine it would start to hurt after a while. Posted 2 years ago #

Again, I do not have the "I was here first type attitude". I could care less about that. I DO NOT care if they "blow up." I DO care about being taken advantage of with this release. Spending ridicuilous amounts of money on 1 friggin record. maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the KOL stuff or the videos, but theres a noticable difference from the way things have been done prior. And the way things have been done prior to this, is a big part of why I admire the band. Posted 2 years ago #

My musical tastes haven't really changed... I just never was into TBK til a few years ago cuz honestly, I hadn't heard of them. That's why I think that promotion is a good thing, cuz some people just haven't been exposed to such great music yet. Anyways, as I said, much respect to all the people who have been here from the beginning, you're right, you guys are the machine that got this ball rolling. And thelengths, I suppose this promotional madness could get frustrating, me, I'm satisfied with just buying one copy of the album... I guess I won't get to have OHIO Posted 2 years ago #
