I've been contemplating cleaning house with my guitars possibly and getting a Tele. I've heard you can find some MIM's that are just about as good as the American ones and they are of course cheaper. I really just don't want things sitting around collecting dust and would rather have one solid "jack of all trades" guitar than many "one trick ponies".
Suggestions for Telecasters and other guitars are welcome.

Also if anybody is looking to sell... or buy let me know.
Honestly, I really can't afford to buy a new guitar but I was thinking about trading mine in at my local store for one new one.

I planned to buy an American Tele but I A-B'd quite a few against Mexicans and didn't feel there was a material difference.

Plus, I like to rest my palm on the bridge and the ash tray style bridge on the American Tele prevents that.

For a jack of all trades guitar, I have been thinking that a tele with a neck humbucker would fit the bill perfectly. I haven't been willing to part with any of my current guitars, so I haven't picked one up myself, but if I was going to start over that's probably what I would get. I've been eyeing the G&L's.

Funkmaster, have you spent much time comparing the Squier to the "legit" Fenders? Just curious. You have peaked my interest. I've heard lots of people get MIM's cuz they are cheap and mod the #$%^ out of them. I suppose going the Squier route would be the same concept but with a cheaper initial investment. Also did you compare the "Classic Vibe" to any other Squier types - I think they have "Custom" and "Affinity".

I wanted to steer clear of Squier because they are ok for a beginner guitar but they are priced lower for a reason. Often the components just don't cut the mustard for anything serious.

Online the Affinity series Squiers are about $180. There are good reviews that claim it is comparable to a MIM but lots cheaper. I'd have to change the pups i'm sure and probably the tuners but that still is cheaper than a MIM.
Thoughts?

I just picked up a Squier Telecaster Custom II w/ the P90's for $249

I could have spent more on a guitar but after demoing this a few times, I decided to take it home. The P90's really scream and push the fuzz. Cool guitar

most people who buy the Classic Vibe Custom keep them completely stock. It's a fantastic guitar and easily worth like $700 in my opinion. The finish is superb, the setup out of the box is fantastic (best part of this guitar in my opinion, still love the whole thing) the pickups are great as well. I'm getting the bridge pickup replaced but that's because I don't like the vintage really trebly sound with most telecaster bridge pickups. Just buy it, it's fantastic and you will love it

Thanks for the advice guys. I went down and played some. The guy at the store had great things to say about the Classic Vibe as well. He had me play it and an American Special. They matched up fairly well. The pups on the American were better and it felt a bit heaver and better built though. To me, definitely better stock than the Squier but at twice the price. I almost went for the Classic Vibe until I found a MIM HH.

I wasn't interested in the double humbucker idea until I played it. More meat and less twang than the typical tele pups yet still "tele-ish" if that makes sense. Almost like more powerful tele pups with less hum. Played and felt great so I made a trade for it. It was only $450 compared to the $380 Squier and $800 American. I would have switched the pups on the Squier. I think the quality craftsmanship matches up closer to that of the American as well.

solid black, black pickgaurd. Cant get the image to work but looks just like this:

different strokes for different folks man, the neck pickup sold me on the classic vibe custom, the binding as well. Nice to hear you went for the HH tele, probably does black keys very well
