great interview April. I love Cadillac Sky and hope to catch a live show

Thanks so much! It was a lot of fun to do. David Mayfield said he really enjoyed it, too. He's a doll and a half.

I'm super envious of GrownSoFugly getting to see them with Mumford & Sons. That promises to be epic.

Alright well hopefully he doesn't mind me doing this, but my friend Mike Grant works for the Black Keys and he has a new band called Young Moons. I just recently found out about them, and it seems like everything is in the early stages, but they sound REALLY good. Check them out. Mike does the lighting for TBK. He's a super cool dude, and nice too.

PS- that myspace page just has demos basically. Mike said he's hoping to have an album by early 2011.

No problem. Just keep in mind that Mike recorded that himself in his room late last winter. The album will have a full band. This was just a couple guys throwing down some quick demos.

Glenn Schwartz is the guiatrist from Pacific Gas & Electric, original guitarist from The James Gang.

Old vid but he's still playing round Cleveland apparently - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2368554126#!/group.php?gid=2368554126&ref=ts

Listening to him since referenced in an interview with Dan Johnson, Dan A.'s guitar tech/TBK stage manager amongst many other things, which I'll publish this week.

Dan Johnson:

"One of the amplifiers he [Dan A.] started using recently
is a Fender Quad Reverb – it’s like a Super Reverb, only it has 4 12s
instead of 4 10s, and it’s also a hundred watts.

So, it’s very loud. It’s like a Marshall half-stack. And he started
using that because it’s a favorite of this local Cleveland guitar
player named Glenn Schwartz. Glenn is an older guy that’s been playing
around Cleveland for a long time, and I don’t think he’s ever had an
amazing amount of success, but he’s had a pretty moderate amount of
success where people that play in the area, they know who he is, and
his sound is pretty awesome. And part of his sound is this Quad
Reverb. That’s what led us to getting these amplifiers in the first
place."

I'm sure most of these were already mentioned. But what the heck, right?

The Alive catalogue proved to be most enjoyable.

Left Lane Cruiser is most kinds awesome, attitude, simplicity, songs about food, come on, it's pretty hard not to love those guys.

Hacienda is another one. Great beatleasque sound and positive vibes.

Burnside and Kimbrough Despite being a dedicated blues scholar long before hearing TBK, I never had the opportunity (or interest, for that matter) to examine them in more detail. "Going Down South" cover and Chulahoma disc changed that.

Buffalo Killers great band, already mentioned, but I really had hard time getting into it, mostly because the lead singer's voice, perhaps unjustly, always happened to conjure the images of Axl Rose. I can't say I've completely got rid of that first impression.

Radio Moscow is a bit too derivative. But that Hendrix-like guitarwork is a fantastic marvel to behold.

Started listening to Greenhornes "dual mono" the other day and I ended up downloading all of their albums, they are awesome! I hear they are a great live act, hopefully they will be swinging out east soon. Also check out the new Dr. Dog album "Shame, Shame"

Glenn Schwartz has been discussed before, I guess on the old board. We went to see him a bunch of times, and he even opened up for TBK at the old Limespider in Akron. He's an astounding guitar player, but a complete burnout. The story goes that he did too many psychadelics and just disappeared, only to show up in a christian cult outside of Cleveland. He rants and raves during his shows about japs, mexicans, loose women and armageddon. His brother Gino, is his bass player, and probably the only reason he has any career left. Gino, btw, was bass player for Robt. Jr. Lockwood.
Dan brought Matthew and Bruce up from Miss., to see if he might fit on Fat Possum, but they determined that he was even too nuts for them. If you get a chance to see him, you should.
Either Scene magazine or The Free Times did a long feature on him, a while back. It worth reading.

I noticed that alot recently too. A buddy of mine has seen him play a few times over the years. He has an interesting story of one time during a show where Glenn just went on this incredibly long rant about anything and everything, (he's related to mirbs possibly?) then proceded to walk off the stage and end the show. We've talked a couple times about going to the Beachland and checking it out, but haven't yet done so.

if you get the chance, see Glenn Schwartz. this link gives a pretty good overview and is very interesting...http://www.slapjazz.com/GlennSchwartzFAQ.htm

i had heard about the Schwartz Brothers for years playing at Major Hooples (Flats area dive bar)on Thur. nights. suppposedly Joe Walsh even stopped in when in town. Never saw them there, but then had the chance this summer to see them at Mike's Barn (off the radar musicians clubhouse kinda place in Elyria...actual barn on guys property decked out with full stage, sound, lights, etc...check mikesbarn.com and sign up for newletter)...

anyway, i was blown away...other than a few religious rants here and there, the playing was outstanding and jaw dropping...yes as nappy said, sadly this guy is clinically nuts, but speaks through his guitar in an amazing way. they now usually play the last friday each month at the Beachland...and i hope to see them again there before he decides not to play anymore.

well...the look of the cake, it ain't, it ain't always the taste

After I heard about Tame Impala supporting TBK I got Innerspeaker and I was blown away-- so blown away in fact that I got tickets to see them in a couple months. I think these guys are gonna be huge, should be something to see em in a sweaty 400 person dive bar!
