I didn't think it was necessary to start another thread, so I'll just use this one...even though the topic started was originally inquiring about tickets.
I just got home from the the Palladium show after dropping a few of my close friends off at their respective houses. I think it's the only Black Keys show I've attended that I didn't really enjoy. I've been to their shows since the Thickfreakness days, and this is honestly the only time I went home thinking it was a waste of time and money.
The Palladium pisses me off. Their sound sucks, the people there (concert attendees included) are rude and annoying, and 2 groups of bigger dudes within about 2 feet of me got into fist fights due to shoving and pushing because they didn't want to loose their standing spot, or couldn't see or something like that. When it comes to the music, I still barely understand the point in having two guys up there playing bass and keyboards, when the keyboardist plays tambourine 70% of the time when he's not busy playing the same notes along the guitar, only at a lower volume and in an annoying tone. And the bass player...couldn't even hear him. No disrespect to Leon and Nick by any means, I've heard their other projects and they're fine musicians, but I certainly don't think it adds anything to a Black Keys show- if anything...to me it takes away from what the Black Keys do best. Yes, I'm one of those fans....the kind that hate change...especially of the "sellout" variety.
Yes, I said it. Flashing lights like that to me don't belong at a Keys show. I feel like even though they always assure people that they're still in control and doing what they want to do, there's got to be some degree of influence from floods of new people hearing their music, money, a larger overall fan base. I definitely still think it's changing them and the way they think and the way they play. For a fan like myself that's been there for a long time and has seen them progress at live shows and grow as a band, I'm definitely happy that they're finally getting the attention and recognition that they deserve. It's long, long overdue in my opinion, but I don't like how it's affecting the direction of the band and the experience of seeing them in a live.
Probably won't attend another Keys when they come to Southern California. Not really worth it in my opinion. Dan and Pat, you guys are probably the best musicians to come out of the past 10 years or so and I still love and respect you guys.....AND I still love your older tunes....or anything pre-Brothers for that matter, but I think this is where I get off. I wonder if anyone else feels this way?
