I generally don’t listen to hip-hop for the same reason I generally don’t listen to country or heavy metal: the vocals annoy the crap out of me. I listened to Blakroc, I loved the grooves, I'd be slowly falling for a song when BAM, some MC comes in and starts grunting at me. I lose focus and instead start looking around the room for sharp objects I can shove in my ears. I’m not saying there’s not stuff of these genres that I’ve enjoyed thoroughly, I just can’t justify rummaging through a giant pile of manure looking for a handful of gems. Give me a song, I’ll listen. Give me seven names and an era, ain’t gonna happen.

So hip-hop, meh.

What's everyone's favorite hip hop album

I love liquid swords. Dusty foot philosopher is cool too. To be honest I have just been getting into hip hop so I don't really know many.

(Dan and Pat are fans of hip hop; it's related, hah.)

Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol. 2.

Not just favorite hip hop album but one of my top all time albums.
His album "The 3rd World" is up there too.

I got into Hip Hop from about 1998-2003 when rock was pretty terrible, other than Radiohead.

The Roots "Do You Want More?" was really important for getting me into hip hop since the beat were all performed live (No sampling) and the lyrics were/are incredible.

My two favs though: NAS "Illmatic" and Madvillain "Madvillainy."

It's the same thing with just about any genre of music these days, isn't it? The Black Keys are a gem

yeh but rock and roll has more gems to me than hip hop. Its just a taste thing. I'd much rather listen to average rock than whats considered "good" hip hop.

Just a taste thing, exactly. I'm not saying hip-hop is crap; music wouldn't be what it is today without it and for that I am grateful. I just don't wanna listen to it.
