I just think it's annoying that they're totally cool with some chump with a microphone in the audience uploading shows on the internet but won't let NPR stream their set to their massive following?

I get that festivals are different and create obstacles to produce a great-sounding set but it just seems... diva-ish.

We'll go with they partied too hard and can't hang. I like that interpretation.

Although this site seems to run on innuendo, I thought I'd add a pertinent fact. TBK NEVER heard the recording, therefore, wouldn't approve it's use. Is that really hard to understand? Why do so many of use choose to take a negative view of things? It's like, if you're fans, who the fuck needs enemies. You really should think before you post. I've heard so many of you squawk about "freedom of speech"; fuck you, how about being responsible for what comes out of your fuckin' mouths.

If you're not talking about the Behind the Scenes recordings...

For those wanting the Black Keys from Bonnaroo you should know that we let them hear their set and they asked that we not air it. Sorry.

Yea, NPR specifically said that TBK heard the set and chose not to air it, which seemed like an odd choice. If NPR made that up, then they're shit heads.

I wasn't trying to be negative, I just really wanted to hear the show and was disappointed. That's the fuel behind a lot of the negativity you'll find on here. We're big fans, we always want more, I guess sometimes it's not our place. Grain of salt.

raunchy - i know you think you mean well but you're information is incorrect. of all companies, one would think NPR would be the one who wouldn't file reports based on assumption.

the reality is, pat and dan were sent a large file to download and approve but between traveling and working they didn't have ample time to download and review the sound file within NPR's tight approval time period. therefore, it was not approved. simple as that.

again, one wonders why there was a comment in the first place on the NPR site? the keys have have always been gracious to NPR and vice versa - a harmonious relationship. dan and pat have always tried to keep tight control of any "professional" recordings of their band that may circulate and why would anyone take that lightly? especially a company that is so "pro-arts".

i guess what i'm saying is, NPR's comment was unprofessional, incorrect and misleading.

Right on well I'm glad we got that cleared up. It was very confusing and Chuck I hope you now realize we were all just going off of what NPR wrote. It didn't seem like we were jumping to conclusions, since NPR has a pretty good reputation for delivering facts. We thought they were shootin' us straight, and we were wrong.

Your point is still valid though, we should all (myself included) think twice before we jump down our favorite band's throats. Try to consider all possible situations and perspectives.

And finally, yeah, NPR shouldn't even have written anything about it. Just don't include the Black Keys material since it was not approved, so no link would appear and no mention of it, no explanation needed. No need to say "Hey looky, the Black Keys wouldn't allow us to give you the goods..." that just seems vindictive. They could have been more understanding. The boys are in the midst of an enormous fucking tour right now, and they didn't have time to check the shit out and approve it yet, no need to mention any of that to the public.
