Anyone here play one of these before? I just bought one. I couldn't decide between this one and the Classic Vibe Custom, which is double bound but has a rosewood fretboard and comes in sunburst finish. I ended up buying the one at the link above because it's made of pine and I like the tinted maple neck better. And I like the color better.

Anyhow, curious if anyone has played one? Thoughts? I bought it from MF so I didn't even get to play it first. The specs look real nice, and so do the reviews. I just sold my Epi Gold Top for more than I paid for it so it was a win-win.

I have thoughts of replacing the pickguard and possibly the pickups. Gotta hear'em first, but I've read that the neck position is routed for humbucker... so I'm tempted to get a pickguard that has a humbucker slot and put one of these in there...

http://www.guitarfetish.com/Dream-90-Humbucker-SIzed-P90--Chrome-Case-_c_62.html

I had one in the neck position of my previous Telecaster and it was a perfect match. I'm going to leave it alone for a bit though and get to know it first. I might find that it sounds good the way it is.

The only required upgrade for it will be this Electrosocket from StewMac. I have no clue why Fender/Squier don't use this on all of their guitars. The Tele jack cup is a joke. All Teles need this part- takes 5 mins to install...

Oh and I always use Schaller Strap Locks so those too. But other than that, this is a nice budget axe. The tuners are decent, the nut is decent, the neck is great, 25.5" scale, nice big frets, the body is pine and thicker than the usual Squier size (more like Fender American), vintage style bridge/saddles, higher quality pots and switch... what's not to like? Usually I buy a $200 Squier knowing that I'll have to gut it and re-wire it, change the tuners, get a proper nut cut, etc. This is like the deluxe top-of-the-line Squier, haha, can't wait to check it out.

haha, nah I was in Vegas for a spell and then Iowa. Plus I'm training for the Chicago Marathon and I had my wedding anniversary, etc. Lots going on these days. Favorite time of year too. Autumn. Harvest time. Great seasonal beers. Leaves changing colors. Halloween candy. Scary movies. Haunted houses. Great for hiking, camping, fishing, running, you name it.

Anyways thanks for the reassurance. I'm sure I'll dig the guitar. Just waiting for it to be delivered later this week, so sitting around wondering what it'll be like, heh.

I wish I could afford nicer guitars, but I don't play gigs or tour, and since I'm not wealthy it doesn't make sense to have a guitar that costs more than $400-$500. I'm happy with whatever though- it's more important HOW you play than WHAT you play.

So yeah, if anyone has any additional info or experience with them? Tried one at the store? Likes? Dislikes?

I have the custom. It's different from the 50's in a lot of ways.

the 50's has brass saddles
the 60's has steel saddles

the 50's has pine wood and a maple fretboard
the 60's has alder wood and a rosewood fretboard

and the pickups are different in them

Overall, I picked the 60's because it was double bound. I would replace the neck on either of them eventually. Eventually I'll upgrade it with new tuners, a fatter all maple neck, a bigsby, and pretty soon a 5 hole pickguard.

Congrats on the purchase mirbs!

Funkmaster I think you accidentally flip-flopped the 2nd part of that.

the 50's has alder wood and a rosewood fretboard
the 60's has pine wood and a maple fretboard

I think that you meant vice versa, no?

The 50's, the one I bought, it's white/"blonde" and made of pine and a maple fretboard. But yeah the double-binding did look sweet on that Custom (60's). It was a tough call. I don't like the sunburst that much and I don't like the rosewood fretboard. Just personal preference. The Custom (60's) also has Alnico V pickups which I think I like better than the Alnico II pickups of the 50's, but we shall see. My thinking was - hey I'm probably going to replace the pickups anyways, and my previous guitar had Alnico V's, so let's try these II's and see..."

Oh and potential upgrade, like I said, would be a new pickguard with a slot for a humbucker in the neck position. That way I can toss in a humbucker-sized P90 (or a humbucker). And I might go black pearl or tortoiseshell on the pickguard, just to spice it up a bit. But then I think I want to stay with the "blackguard" vintage vibe.

No big deal man, just trying to keep it straight in case someone reads this and thinks about buying one or the other or whatever. No problem.

Yeah in real life it sounded a bit more different but that clip is a pretty good representation of the actual sound.

Mirbs I have the classic vibe double bound one. It's pretty damn good. Pickups are great if anything I'd say the bridge is a little too bright for my liking and the saddles on the classic vibe are stupid threaded bar rather than round bar. I need to get it setup it played good at first but second set of strings it is a bit out on intonation. But I play 10's whereas fender likes to go with 9's so that'll affect that as well.

All I'll be doing is getting a bone nut put in just cause I like to know it's good stuff. A setup and some different saddles. Other than that I love it! The neck is great but the gloss needs to where in a bit yet. I don't know about your ones specs by the neck on mine could be a little fatter for my liking but still there isn't much in it. The neck pickup is very fat and smooth on mine. But you've got II's not V's so that'll be different.

So mirbs what's the best way to get a P90 pickup into my dreadnought acoustic?

tbkmagic, good news for ya... your guitar already has a bone nut. http://www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0303030500 click that and then click on specifications. it's synthetic bone but it's way better than plastic.

And yeah, those necks are GLOSSY. the maple fretboard on the 50's tele will blind you if the light hits it just right. Oh well, it'll wear down. And yes I like the brass saddles better, unless you plan to put a Bigsby on there - then those threaded steel saddles come in handy.

Ultimately I went with the 50's tele because I was intrigued by the pine body. I like the double binding on the 60's tele but I'm hoping that the thin finish and pine body will give me better resonance and whatnot (versus the thick glossy finish on the double-bound alder body of the 60's tele). The 60's definitely looks prettier but I think the 50's will sound/play more the way I like. We shall see. Truth be told, I've always wanted a tinted-maple-fretboarded telecaster. I love me some twang and trebly bite.

I wish I could help with your acoustic mod question but that's best left to a talented luthier. I have no skills or experience when it comes to modifying acoustic guitars.

I gotta agree with your purchase!

I myself just trade in my old line 6 spider and got a squier affinity series tele (butterscotch blonde) and a fender vibro champ xd. Couldn't find one bad review on it and it sounds really good to me. Thinking of upgrading the pickups though in time
