Black Keys covers are popping up now more than ever: Leading up to their appearance at Bonnaroo, the aunt martha band is recording covers of other bands who will be there. This is one of the few 'tighten up' covers that I actually like. I don't know anything about the band, just came across the video on the internets.
And Patrick tweeted this one by The Watson Twins, which isn't really my cup of tea:

I didn't expect to like this as I am generally a slow one to warm up to covers of songs that I consider to be classic, perfection, or otherwise near and dear to me, but I was surprised by this. I like the vocal. Now, had I heard this without ever hearing TBK, I can't say I'd be weak-kneed, can't even say I'd buy it but I think the vocal would catch my attention. This is a nice one. Thanks for sharing it.

Ooops. Sorry about that. Still learning my way around here. My favorable comments were directed toward the cover by The Aunt Martha Band. The second posting above - The Watson Twins - not for me. I don't prefer to listen to female vocalists - No offence toward women - it's just a rare thing for me to feel the power of a song when it's performed by a female. There are a few exceptions (Joplin, Joss Stone, and this Adele - new to me - seems promising) but on the whole, if a female is lead, I am whistling on by. I do think it's amazing to hear and see so many people suddenly alighting on TBK and murmuring TBK this and TBK that. I am delighted they are getting some much deserved and long over due recognition, but somehow it's a bit melancholy too. Ah, perhaps that's just me being territorial. Just listened to Sara Niemietz and Delta Maid versions... 8O... just not my thing. I am getting an American Idol vibe and it sorta turns me off. Either way, thanks for sharing the covers. They are entertaining and The Aunt Martha Band surprised me. I like when I am surprised musically. Posted 1 year ago #

The Aunt Martha Band and Delta Maid versions were OK, worth a listen. The other two not so much, I agree with the "American Idol vibe" comment. Dammit Hokes, you're such a jerk.
