The guitar is looking great!

I'm working to put a rotary switch on a tele I have, would you mind directing me somewhere I can figure out the number of poles and throws I need? What did you use for your switch? Does it change between neck/both/bridge? I have a mini-hum on the neck and was looking to wire neck/neck split/both/bridge single coil.

That thing looks beautiful. Hows the action? Did you have to shim the neck because of the change in stringangle from the Bigsby?

i did. ill be completely honest, as cool as the Dan Auerbach H47 is, doing the customization is a pain in the ass granted, the finished product is totally worth it, but you really have to jump through hoops to get there.

i decided to use a 4 way rotary switch. ideally, i wouldve used a 3 way, but you know how that goes.
like i mentioned earlier, it really was a fluke of luck that i found someone else's wiring diagram because rotary switches confuse the HELL outta me.
4-way rotary swich

the positions for my H47 are 1-neck 2-neck+bridge in series 3-neck+bridge in parallel 4-bridge.
tonally speaking, series wiring gives you a boomy, humbucker like tone, parallel gives the opposite-a single coil tone.
like i said i really would have ideally worked with an original 3 way rotary switch and done the standard neck/bridge/both wiring, but the two extra positions are fun too.

misa-as far as looking for extra assistance with your wiring, i would join that forum in the link i provided and ask some of the guru's there.
TBH, i am skilled in the gruntwork of guitars, the building, fixing and shaping, still not TOO familiar with the universe of guitar wiring.

@stackshotmazz - Thanks for the guidance. I've never liked the standard Tele switch and been wanting to swap it out for a rotary. Like you, I haven't been able to fully understand what's going on with the wiring of a rotary. I'll have to do some research.

just a side note, i really.REALLY fell in love with this guitar.

it is so resonant, im almost stunned. and the TONE ugh. it just oozes mojo.

ive been playing black keys songs on it for the past few days now and im nailing Dantone. obviously, at times i have to take time to tweak MY pedals, but with the guitars in my arsenal now, it all sounds superb to me.

i am trying extra hard to get either some video or sound up for y'all, i just dont have any substantial mics/video recording devices at the moment.

and, the H47 isnt TOTALLY complete, i have some minor cosmetic things to do, bevel the pickguard, make a new truss rod cover and rig up my white switch, but its in playing mode right now, so ill get to them when i have more free time.

Ive been staring at the pics like the first time I ever opened the pages of a Playboy. Seriously.. Those guitars are boner-inducing. Stack, if I show up at your doorstep dressed in my nicest attire, have my car cleaned inside and out, promise to be a gentleman, and have them home no later than midnight. Would you allow me to take them out?
... I also love how you have your capo on the second fret of the JD. As if your about to plug that thing in and open up the show with Girl Is On My Mind!

Regarding Dan's H47, I noticed a set up' change, that is one more exemple of the changing sound of the keys...
Dan's NEVER EVER changed is neck pickup set up for the last 10 years... BUT...
I noticed recently that on the El Camino shows, he did switch in the middle pickup set up...
I was so happy to see him play this guitar for that tour... but I know it won't be like the good all times ever...

Here's another shot of Dan playing the stratotone on a different position... He only plays that guitar for Run Right Back in Open G tuning for the El Camino tour so it may also have to do with how that song sounds... Or maybe the pot inside the guitar shifted and that's where the bridge position is now?

You're correct!
Dan uses to record a lot in "open G" tunning (especially with this guitar) and then adapts to a standard tunning for practicity.
He toured with his H47 (and H78 of course) a lot on A&R (with a standard tunning), then the guitar was dedicated to "open G" tunning songs like "Stack shot" for exemple.
For now, we all know the end of the story... (no more Stack shot Billy...)

This is not just the switch that shifted... TBK sadly shifted with it...
