I was thinking Mark Neil formerly of Toe Rag Studios was producing the new album. Maybe he just engineered the recording

Danger Mouse is apparently back in the seat for some of it at least. Maybe just mixing?

"Black Keys and Dangermouse in the Bunker!
We just finished a busy long weekend with The Black Keys and Dangermouse, working on the single for their new record... the track is gonna be banging! They are a bunch of really talented dudes, and are also a lot of fun to hang out with, so it was a really fun, really productive session. Can't wait to hear the final mixes!"

I wouldn't expect a Thickfreakness or Big Come Up sound anytime soon. They've obviously evolved with each record. I have no clue what to expect with this one, but it has been said that this is their most minimal approach yet.

I have yet to be disappointed with any of their sounds. I appreciate that as musicians they don't wish to feel confined to any one sound, or instrument. I believe the music will evolve as their incredibly diverse lives evolve. So, for them to say that this is their most minimalist approach yet is curious to me. Possibly that means no keyboards, guest vocals ect. I dunno. Myself, i like the raw sound of the fuzz and crybaby along with the drums. Could this be their "Exile on Main Street", the Stones album that I believe exemplifies what was the core of the Stones sound? I don't know. I hope so. The Keys have yet to be a let down. Just lookin' forward to it's release.

Not sure, but I doubt this (if he's producing, not mixing) is for April. I remember reading not too long ago that the April release is self-produced. Maybe this for their other two albums in production?

I'm pretty sure the album which was recorded at Muscle Shoals back in August was produced by themselves with co-producer Mark Neil. Perhaps Dangermouse is mixing some songs, perhaps he is involved in Blakroc Part Two, perhaps he is involved in one of the other Black Keys records which will be finished till April 2010. Anyway, good find Brucini.

hmm, The Bunker has removed their post about Danger Mouse and The Black Keys

I had left a comment on the post asking for clarification whether Danger Mouse was producing or mixing a track. whether it was new material or material recorded at muscle Shoals

not sure why they would be spooked into removing it

i think that ref will either be for blakroc or a later album as i was given the impression that the latest album was minimal n probably nearer their old sound. tbh i cnt wait n dont really care i have full trust that their new albums will blow anythin thats out now out the water!

I'm fairly convinced now Danger Mouse is just doing a mix/radio edit for the single off the album recorded at Muscle Shoals . the original post says as much.

Mark Neil mentioned a few tracks would be sent out to people to mix for singles/radio edits but the whole recording and album was designed to be, and was only, recorded and mixed by him

Have the Keys had radio edits before for their singles?

Also, an admittedly dumb question, what is the logic behind radio edits (assuming no obscenity modifications)?

I believe they or someone edited out the spooky gospel choir part of "I Got Mine" for radio.

I think they have to dumb it down for all the dumbys that listen to the radio. By that I mean they have to streamline it. Many extended jam songs have been shortened for radio airplay. It's sad, but I guess most people don't have the attention span needed to enjoy a song longer than 4 minutes.
