I love The Black Keys to death. We all do. But I'm extremely disappointed with their set list decisions and their live performances recently. I'm not disappointed with what they're doing in the studio, I LOVE El Camino to death, more so than Brothers! But after hearing what they played at the album release party, I'm sort of freaking out. They're slowly scrapping my favorite Black Keys songs one by one. No more 10 A.M. Automatic. No more Same Old Thing. No more Strange Times. What's next? I Got Mine? Dare I say it... Your Touch? Add some variety to your shows guys! We've heard Thickfreakness crap loads of times! Pull out some less played material! How cool would it be to hear Remember When (Side B) from Attack and Release again? Or Strange Desire from Magic Potion? I love the newer albums, but what if all of that old dirty material we loved from them is scrapped completely from their setlists in the future? What songs would you like to hear live?

Fave Black Keys Albums:
1. Magic Potion
2. Attack and Release
3. El Camino
4. Rubber Factory

Lets not forget this was an album release show, aired on mtv.com so they could have the set geared toward promoting the album...

I can understand the fear though, and maybe it will come true, but lets wait until the first "real" show after this promotional stint, to see what they plan to do...

Yea, no need to jump the gun so quickly. I kinda think what the first post says, may unfortunately be a sign of things to come with the upcoming tour. But im holding out a lil hope! All our old favs will be brought back in due time thought. When they do, it may be years from now, but it will be worth the wait.

I wouldn't hold your breath. This has been a long-time reoccurring subject here on the board. It is true that this setlist is probably not a def. indicator of the next tour, but...

If history repeats itself, the more obscure songs get scrapped the more "hits" they make, along with a heavy dose of the new material. If they hadn't done that before, you probably would've never heard "Same Old Thing" live.

Yeah no shit. Thickfreakness is probably their best album and the title track is the best way to start any live show. The slide part just rips through your skull and the riffs are thunderous. It's like an aural orgasm and sets the tone for the whole show.

I saw them three times during the Brothers tour and they weren't playing Same Old Thing then.

I'm all for the old stuff, but TBK will play what they feel they need to play...NO THCKFREAKNESS?!?!? When I think of The Black Keys, that is the song that pops into my head first! Axing Busted and Stack Shot Billy part of the set would also be a tragic event to me.

I wonder how the old stuff will translate into an arena setting?

You guys have me really confused. They just released a new album. They're going to play songs on live tv from that album and it's predecessor. It's nothing new. I'm sure their sets will include old songs. Guess what? They're going to be most of their hits, they have a lot over the past decade.

Agreed. As usual Smokesignals telling like it is.

What I've been wanting to say but held back until now - they have 7 albums. They can't play a 5 hour set. Some songs will not be played. Get over it.

Some of us around here won't be happy until they play a personal show in their very own backyard in eastern europe or south america, a 3 hour multi-encore show with a setlist that's hand picked...

I think a lot of us are kinda frustrated because of their repetitive set lists over the years and now it's the same thing but with material off their most recent albums. Bands like Pearl Jam and The White Stripes switch(ed) it up every show. I remember when Modest Mouse hit it big with Good News For People Who Love Bad News, they didn't even play Float On or Ocean Breathes Salty every show. But I'm not taking that NYC album release show as a sign for things to come. Radiohead did the same thing with their first shows supporting the King of Limbs, it was all new material and nearly all the rest was stuff off their previous album In Rainbows. I just hope Dan and Pat's fear of losing all their new success goes away soon so they don't feel like they have to cater to the mainstream audience and instead do whatever they hell they want with no pressure.
