She is a very good writer. The lyrical content and some of the press released during Brothers lead me to believe that she was just some no-good succubus, but this is a very human story that has very human stakeholders on both sides of the issue. This article presents its tone quite romantically and eloquently. I'm sure writing/publishing this was a therapeutic process, much like Brothers was for Pat (bit of an assumption here on my part).
Anyways, as stated, long distance is hard, divorce is harder, but sometimes it's the right decision.
I also think that is a funny portrait of Dan. I think Dan is built up in all of our heads as an infallible guitar god whose unique tastes in music are above any layman's-- he has introduced many of us to countless unique obscure gems. While the latter may be true, it's funny to acknowledge that as a young man he was just a regular consumer of music like all of us, hell, just a regular kid subject to his own ego and id.
Anyways, I'll close as I started. She is a really good writer, using the minutiae of her life with Pat to detail those special moments that only people who have loved or lost can understand. I think it really evokes a lot of empathy from the reader. I'm bookmarking this.
I hope that coming out of the divorce both of them can find peace and happiness. But especially Pat.
This blood red ass don't smell so good...
