Anyone here tried any Dr. Z amps (out of Maple Heights, OH)? I've played through a few of them and am procuring a Maz 18 NR head, which sounds pretty badass, to replace the Blues DeVille I've been gigging with.

That Dr.Z will be quite an upgrade. I've never spent any long period of time, but I try to play on one almost everytime when I go to the music store. Posted 1 year ago #

I've played through a few Dr Z's and to my ears a 65 Amps amp has far superior tone. Matchless comes second. These amps are in the mid $1500 - $3000 price range but you're getting american made hand built quality. On the used market a bit cheaper. Find a place where you can try a few boutique amps out with your guitar then make a decision on what fits your tone, playing dynamics, feeling and amp/guitar response. You maybe finding you like the breakup on a lower volume amp and/or the marshall voiced circuit. Fender is 60 watts with 6L6 and the Dr Z is 18 watts EL84. That being said while not for me, the Dr Z's are great amps. Posted 1 year ago #

"american made hand built quality" lol... just sayin hand built usually means that it comes with a bit of character but eventually it'll fall apart and including american means it will i jest i jest. if you want manufacturing quality you gotta give it to the germans n the japs. fun n games over i know i'll receive a bit of abuse for that. i've never heard of dr z amps and if it's an upgrade on ya blues deville i really wanna have a go. i usin the hotrod n love it. checkin out the website now "When the sweats dried in, It smells like Rock n Roll" Posted 1 year ago #

@derekirving & @hokes - breakup at lower volume and the Marshall voiced circuit are exactly what I'm thinking. I gigged with one last summer and again last week and I'm digging it. I'm going to sit on my Blues Jr & my Blues DeVille, but I think this will take my sound more where I'd like it to go. Posted 1 year ago #
