I knew it would happen. The radio station here in Columbus Ohio just announced The Black Keys will play the Schottenstein Center with The arctic Monkeys opening. $49.50 for GA. March 4th

Wow. I hope they do well I guess, but personally you'd have to pay ME $49.50 to attend that one. Not that I wouldn't want to be at a Black Keys show but arenas are terrible for concerts. I'd rather stay home and watch it on tv, lol.

Another thing to consider... wouldn't it make more sense for arena tickets to cost LESS, rather than MORE? I mean, you play a venue that holds 5,000 people and you charge $25 a ticket let's say, so that's $125,000. Then you play an arena like the Schottenstein Center that holds 19,500 people and you would only need to charge $6.41 per ticket to make the same $125,000 paycheck. Not that I'm asking for $6 concerts but maybe $25 should still be the going rate - after all, why would I pay more money to be further away from the band and in a building 4 times as large?

I'm in full agreement. I'm not too excited about this. I've been dreading this day. I'm going to try to get general admission its to get close to the stage.

Arenas do suck to see shows in. I know why they will do larger venues, it makes business sence. But, i better see more than 55 minutes of TBK for fitty bucks. Old fuggars like Metallica and G n R can still play 2-3 hrs!

I'm a weird dude and I have been carrying this in my wallet with me since the show. I "laminated" it with tape but you can see the price in the upper right corner... $12

This wasn't the first time I saw them but it was my most memorable. Anyhow, the point is, DAMN I miss those twelve dollar days.

@MirbyGnits bigger venue = higher cost.

A bigger venue like an arena would need more security, more people who have to check tickets, more merch stand people, more vendors, more lighting, there's bound to be huge tv screens and a whole lotta other tech stuff that requires more tech people. All the way down to the people who have to clean the toilets... a bigger venue just requires more people to be hired, therefore the price has to go up- maybe not to the level it has done, but it can't be cheaper than smaller venues, even if the experience you are getting is a lot worse!

Very good points.

Well I guess the question is now, why would they do it then? If it costs more and provides a worse experience for the fan - why bother?

We all know the answer. Money. Don't blame them. But still hate the situation. Add that to the list of things that money can ruin.

I think you pretty much nailed it there... money. More people, more revenue.

To give them a little more credit, I suppose you could say its a way of them catering to the growing fan base. More people want to see them, so if they're rocking up in a state/town or whatever and playing one small venue, there's gonna be a lot of disappointed people. The arena allows a lot more fans to experience them live, plus a lot of people do like the whole arena experience, I personally don't.

Who likes the whole arena experience? I don't know of anyone. It's sterile, removed, generic, and bland. I've NEVER been at a show at a club or theater and heard the dude next to me say "oh man I just really wish this show was at an arena instead! it would be way better!"

The only exception I can think of is if they add some pyrotechnics and crazy props and background sets and all kinds of bells and whistles like that. And even then... the best you can hope for is a tie. I don't see how an arena show could be BETTER than a more intimate show.

I'm just glad they're not 'that big' in the UK yet... because if they start coming here and only playing at the O2 or Wembley Stadium then no more live TBK's for me

Hmmm $50 does a seem a little pricey, for what will prob be a shorter show (compared to others I attend), I will still hit up the MSG show though. I wonder if they will have 2 opening acts

@Mr.ssippi there are a couple of venues they're playing at which hold about 4,000. But I'm seeing them at Alexandra Palace in london which is pushing about 9,000-10,000 capacity. It's still a lot of people, it's no small venue, but the O2 Arena holds 23,000 people- there is just no point in seeing anything there. I've done it before and you just end up watching the TV screen anyways..

@littleseawolf.. 4,000 would be no problem at all! Totally see where you're coming from on the O2 aren's and what not. That's just so many damn people! It was like that the only time i've seen them (Hangout Fest). There were probably 30-40,000 people there watching them. It was ok though because my wife and I camped out out all day about 5 feet from the gaurd rail upfront. Sadly, it will most likely be the last time i get to see them (or for a really long time, anyway). I had a great time once they started playing, but being that cramped all day was pretty miserable. I totally understand why they are doing it though. And it's awesome that so many people are being exposed to their music!
