Does anyone else have one of these? I forget how I got it. I think it came with my album (Rubber Factory), and I think I preordered it from a certain online store that had exclusive rights to this free promo dvd with 6 songs on it. Recorded live at Emo's in Austin, TX on Oct 24, 2003.

Patrick has the longest hair I've ever seen him with, and Dan looks much younger and says "yeahyeahyeah" after every song, hehe. Very cool stuff. Patrick dominates his kit as usual and Dan is tearing shit up with his Jerry Donahue Telecaster, with a white pickguard (pre leather tooled pickguard era). The sound quality is quite good for 2003 (pre rubber factory) era footage, imo.

yes I have this as well; i believe i got mine at a record store called Amoeba in San Francisco. It was like 3 bucks or something....a great record store too.
i think this Rubber Factory era is when Dan and Pat really begin to feel "validated" (for lack of a better term) with who they are as a band and what they are doing musically.
yes I think they know that they are good at what they do, but i am referring to the fact that i have a srong feeling that others in the industry and their peers have mad respect for their abilities, both on vinyl and on a stage. It was around this time that they really began to spread their musical wings....and let the world know that they arent just a band....but rather they are both artists and have more depth than many realized

Alright, this is a free promo dvd and is not for resale... so...

if any regulars (sorry new members, I'm a dick like that) here have an ipod that plays videos and wants to check this out, PM me. i just ripped a badass version of this using Handbrake - high quality video/audio - LOUD TOO!

178 MB file size. 20 mins long.

it'll be a free RapidShare file though so it will be limited to 10 total downloads only.

and like i said, only offered to regular members here. new guys, don't even bother asking.

***ALSO, just another observation about this performance- it gets better as it goes on. I distinctly remember those early years/shows and Dan/Pat would usually need 2 or 3 songs to get warmed up, and then they took off like a fucking rocketship. Not that the first few songs were ever "bad", but they were a little stiff at first, usually.

Thanks mirby, the quality on this is excellent! Dan shreads the hell out of thickfreakness. Good stuff.

Yeah, man. I got 2 of them off ebay long after the fact. Got the first one for about 5 bucks. Played it so much I needed a spare.

Sweet. If I remember correctly now, it was a limited free promo dvd that came with your purchase of Rubber Factory but only some independent record stores had them. And since I couldn't be sure who would have them and who wouldn't, I preordered rubber factory from a place online that guaranteed that my purchase would include a copy of it.

Absolutely, 100% evident on the Live DVD. Get to about Busted, which is song 5, and shit gets real in a hurry.

Yeah I know this stuff is all over the web but the quality kinda sucks, imo.

This rip I did is specifically formatted for itunes/ipod and is 178 MB file even though it's only 20 mins long (high quality). The audio and video look/sound far superior to what I've seen out there on the web. Not saying there isn't good stuff out there too, I just haven't seen it.
No big deal. It's just a fun old quick little dvd. Not something you're going to watch every day but for us old timer fans, it's a great way to re-live the glory days. And for the new guys it's a chance for them to see how things got to be the way they are.

That'd be a great thing to see! but since I don't have an iPod at the moment and I can't get on the net at my house at the moment. I will have to google it when I get the chance.

I got one of these also, I believe that I bought a second copy of Rubber Factory so I could get one with the promo DVD. Good footage, I never got to see them live prior to the Rubber Factory tour, so it's nice to see some of the earlier stuff.

I think the #1 thing everyone should take away from this thread, is that the Black Keys have been down for treating fans right since almost day 1.

They have been supporting independent record stores since day 1 as well.

Before Rubber Factory even came out, which was their first big commercial success, they already had this free dvd promotion thing - and made sure it was only for independent record stores and their customers.

Lately there have been many doubters (including myself) regarding TBK and if they've started to "sell out" or not. I think it's a good time to remember that they're the real deal and have been keeping it real for a very long time. This little gem of a promo dvd is the proof.
