I was reading this interview for the movie It Might Get Loud, and Jimmy Page and Jack White were bashing guitar hero and rock band. but didn't the white stripes allow a shitload of songs to be on rockband 2? what are your thoughts?

I think that allowing their songs to be used in "stuff" is beyond their control. Don't bash on Jack White, it's hazardous for your health

You play bass? Whats up?

I think they were probably bashing it more cause there are alot of kids now we are good at video games and guitar hero and all of a sudden they think that playing guitar or any other instrument is super easy only to find out its not. Gives alot of people false impressions. But yeah how can you bash it but add songs to it

I'm just saying that they're bashing it because of yes kepnerb hit it right on the head. But really I don't think they have control over who uses their songs or not

I also think the Keys would be more likely to downplay the "high art" nature of their work, as opposed to Jack.

i've been working in music licensing for years and i can say that if he owns any portion of that music (i haven't read the liner notes in a while, but i'm pretty sure he does) he legally had to give permission for use of the music (and collected a chunk of change for it too). he's a hypocrite if he bashes those games.

my take on Rock Band and Guitar Hero-

It's great for people with no talent/ability/desire to ever pick up and learn to play guitar or drums.

For the rest of us, it's a waste of time and money and it's laughable. Why play with a toy guitar video game when I can be improving my skills on a real guitar and/or writing songs, etc?

my take on Jack White-

I dig his earlier white stripes psych blues-rock freak-out stuff. His latest sideshows, not so much. He needs to be whaling on a guitar and screeching and tearing shit up. That is where he shines. Maybe he's grown tired of it and that's why he's branching out into other things, fair enough. But it don't do much for me. Disagree? Go watch a dvd called Under Blackpool Lights.

Actually when Rock Band first came out my nephews got it for xmas and I played it for many hours straight (with them). I thought it was a great concept and I bought a set and played it for a month straight before realizing all the time I just wasted - I could have been playing my REAL guitar...

So I put it up on Craigslist, sold it to some bro-douche-bags and never looked back.

I was pretty good. Not anywhere near as good as those freaks on youtube. I played on hard most of the time.

Here's another little tidbit for ya, if you whale on guitar (Rock Band)- does that mean you can pickup a real guitar and whale? Nope. Not at all. Completely different skill set. BUT I do believe the drum kit portion of the game does actually help drummers.
