The Black Keys truly, truly suck. Actually most blues music truly, truly sucks. Peeps like Stevie Ray and buddy guy are great, but most people just dink around in a pentatonic scale and make faces while they do it to convince musical ignoramuses that they play with 'feeling'. 'Unfiltered, raw, dirty, heavy, soul' just sounds like a a synonym for 'Sloppy, grooveless, ugly noisy racket' to me.
My take on the whole hipster thing is that hipsters are just a bunch of dumb kids looking to impress everyone around them with how cool, eclectic, artsy and ironic they are, and the music they latch on to reflects this. I have heard tons of well-known hipster music that sounded like it was recorded by a bunch of ten-year-olds who had just received their instruments ten minutes ago. Hipsters are more concerned with how the music they listen to makes them look than the actual content of the music, I think,
And btw, yes, the drummer DOES suck because he doesn't have conventional technique. Tom Morello can play ripping solos and whatever he wants, even if he doesn't. You can tell the Black Keys drummer can only play the kind of embarrasingly shitty beats he plays in his wack ass band. Boom chick boom boom chick.
Who cares if the Black Keys have had a bit of commercial success? So did Britney Spears.

I did not write this, just showing other people recognize this too. These guy do not deserve the world stage, because they are lowering the bar for the blues, and music that is jump and soul but played well, tastefully, and in time. poorly executed instrumentation is simply unacceptable. Youd enjoy it more if they cleaned up--you would notice the difference. But if you like great, Th crowes are the only rock band in over 20 years to get it right, also Mother Hips, Widespread Panic, Blues Traveller. Grant Lee Buffalo and some Jam bands. i am sure that all the forums are weak and there is no motoring it. Simply because you love for a crappy band influences and taints all other musical discussion-- that would be logical conclusion..would't it, see where i am going....what I am getting at. I have no more comments just an occasional video of greatness to share and I will bbe thanked, silently by others who are directed to my wealth in taste. However, you and I just know that more people will check out this thread than your forums the others,--because thy too keep hearing (and questioning their own taste) that the KEys are a fad, and they want to see what proof is brought forward. this is poorly playde performance by the crowes when they were first working it out on their instruments but even so look what they do, on a lennon cover.. I guess what pisses me off is they are ok but lose lots of points on things that could be improved on, not great like everyone claims unless you find it great.
