Ok, let's establish the Black Keys connection-

Patrick, the drummer of MMJ was also one of the Fast 5 on Dan's solo tour. So there.

I went to see MMJ last night at the Charter One Pavillion in Chicago. It's a small-ish outdoor venue right on the lakefront. The show did not sell out, probably due to the ticket prices $60+ (that's what I heard, we got in for free so I'm not sure).

The drinks were INSANELY priced. $9.50 for a fucking bud light. I think it was 16 oz. Awful. I don't drink bud so I went and got a vodka/redbull since I was feelin' a bit sluggish... $17. No shit. Oh and they do not allow you to tailgate in the parking lot beforehand.

Now for the good stuff- the sound at this place is amazing. Seriously. And MMJ put on a fantastic show. If you didn't already know, they are doing 5 nights in NYC in Oct and each night they'll be playing a different one of their albums live. Pretty neat idea. Well they must be practicing all their old stuff because the setlist was kickass! Lots from It Still Moves and some from At Dawn too. Great times.

Anyone else seen them recently or going to those NYC shows?

Wow $17 for a vodka redbull, I know venue prices are inflated but fuck. Mirby have you ever been to the UIC pavillion? Seeing a concert there on Friday. Do they have a full bar or is it just beer? Any place close by that's good to pre-game?

At $9.50 a pop for bud light you'd have to break the bank just to get a buzz. People buy the shit?

Anyways, what an awesome idea on the album thing. I wish more bands would do stuff like that.

Meta - I've been to UIC many times for shows. Not to shabby, pretty small for an indoor "stadium" show, decent acoustics, can't really remember if they had a full bar or not, I believe that they did though. One thing to keep in mind, the last show I went to there was Trey Anastasio from Phish and the security was pretty heavy. I suppose they knew better, considering the crowd was all hipsters, including myself, so if your planning on bringing in anything "illegal", crotch it good. They searched me pretty heavy, made me even take off my shoes, never had to do that before, just FYI. Have fun!

I saw them back in May here in Columbus, the show was amazing. I still think its the best live show I've ever seen. They played for about 2 hours. Here are a few pics I took at the show. I had the same spot for this show as I did for the black keys last friday.

This is where I saw TBK for the very first time. They opened for Beck.

I haven't been there in years and I don't know what the rules are there anymore. It is technically a campus so I wouldn't be surprised if booze is not available, but that sounds crazy. How could they not serve booze? That's the money maker.

Pre-game on Taylor Street. Lots of bars. College area (UIC). Hawkeyes is a cool bar over there. Blackhawks bar.

Cool setlist carp. They played mostly old stuff. Dondante was awesome. They didn't do Highly Suspicious or Where To Begin from what I recall.

I'll be attending the show in VT on Friday night and the first three NYC album shows. I love them.

It seems like a few bands have started doing the album concerts. I know Springsteen did BORN TO RUN and I heard that Tom Petty did one not that long ago.

I can't think of many things I am more in favor of.

I've heard that MMJ puts on a stellar show. I think they played a small-ish bar here some years back around/just before(?) It Still Moves, and they rocked the place hard...from what I heard from people who were there.

I have seen Jim James solo and he's amazing...I'm jealous of that dude's voice.

Those live shots are fantastic, looks like a large combo TopHat amp, and a 3 Monkeys amp are in the backline!

yeah he does look like brent hinds

and security was not too tight they did a weak ass pat down like felt my pockets and were like "Wallet? Yep. Keys? Yep. Phone? Yep." so they didn't catch the spliffs I rolled beforehand
getting blazed and hearing megadeth live was awesome

Also went to Kuma's corner. That place is amazing.
