stackshotmazz: hoping you or someone else can help me locate a specific photo of Dan. I need a high quality resolution of the image because I am having a portrait tattoo done. The photo has been incredibly difficult to locate. I would be willing to pay copyright holder for a print if need be. Seems to be from Bonnaroo second day this year. Yes?

This is the only version I can locate and, as you can see, it simply won't do.

Can you help?

Okay... it's similar to the image above (if the fucker stays there!!! ) except Dan has his head tilted back.

Thanks for being willing to take a look and help if you can.

*waggles eyebrows* you are GOOD! but that's not the photo. Close though. Very close. The one I am looking for is shot a bit more from the side and is just the epitome of musical ecstasy.

I still can’t find the fucker but when I do… when I do...!

Hey! You threatenin’ to laugh at me? I warn you: I will not hesitate to say “Ni!”

Thanks for trying though. Seriously. And just what is the irony here? Do tell.

Ah ha!

Sort of. I believe if you go to this URL: http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?assettype=Image&sfkc=Dan+Auerbach#6

A thumbnail will be listed there. If not, just search for image #102028221 and it should display. (I'll probably get a bill for posting a link to their site!)

I talked with company rep and explained for what purpose and intent I wanted the photo. I was told that a tattoo was considered personal "in home" display and that the cost for the right to print a high quality copy was 800.00 unless I intended to use it for more than 20 years (WTF?) No, I suppose in 19 years I'll just have the fucker sandblasted off my skin (????)!

"Okaaaaaaay," I say, "Think I'll pass on that one."

I just need to locate the image elsewhere and try to get a quality print.

Any idea where I might find it elsewhere on line? Here's the thing, I'm not being cheap; the tattoo itself, including a tattooing of Dan's Autograph beneath the portrait, is within dollars of the price for the right to print the damned photo myself!

Still... it is an awfully nice photo. And I do have a copy of it but it's not the quality I need. :sigh:

strange, so this time i enter the thread, your original picture is there....

they're close! very close, but yeah theres just that angle of the shot.

Im not familiar with the legal red tape of using photography, so i cant offer any sound advice. I think that if you can only find it in one place, they have the rights to it or whatever.

IF IT WERE ME in this situation, i would just press the "print screen" key on the keyboard while the picture is up, and then i would open up Microsoft paint or an application of the like, and press paste. then crop out the junk, print the pic and take it to my tattoo artist and be like 'BAM.Hook me up!" BUT thats just me, i tend to disregard the little things in life like that. chances are that ill never bump into the exact photographer who took that pic; "HEY THATS MY PHOTO PRICK! you owe me!"

oh and i was laughing because i thought it would be funny if i had the pic u were looking for in my collection. I saw the smaller pic and then browsed mine to find dan in the same outfit with his head tilted back like you were refrencing

oh and according to my research these pics are from 2010 bonnaroo?

I know, SLIPPERY bastard! (photo appearing, disappearing) Yep. And that angle makes it for me.

Oh Heavens! I am far too uptight and proper for such violations!

Now that was funny! I tend to get a bit visual and had a whole mind movie happening there.

Ah makes sense and I would have laughed at my idiotic self right along with you had the pic been here all along. Thank you for your help. Sincerely appreciate it. I do have a copy of the photo but, being mildly prefectionistic, I wanted a high quality pic. Time to lower my standards a bit and have more faith in my artist. Dude is awesome so it will work out.

If thats the image, i can see that being a tattoo

this is my idea for a Black Keys, inspired tattoo. Posted it in the Chulahoma thread
i started off wanting the album cover but im not sure i want to get specific logos and album cover art on my body as it could look wierd in years to come and i may(now i say I MAY!) not be into the band when i'm older, and i'm left with this whomping great mess i don't like on me skin.
So thought i'd draw up an image of my own and see about getting it instead. Need to save up though probably won't be getting it for a long time, and could even change my mind when it comes to actually getting it

Oh yes, I got the image.

It's one of (if not the) best photos of Dan, in my opinion.

Been searching for an artist (met with several in recent months) that I feel can accomplish the fine detail that is essential for what will be a large and very expensive custom piece. I have many tattoos all musical or spiritual in nature. This one includes the image of Dan (in its entirety) that is mentioned in this thread. I am also having my favorite image of Pat and some other significant TBK elements arranged to create one of my largest and most expensive tattoos. Of the artists I have met to date, none have been qualified/gifted enough to handle the portrait detail that I want.

Oddly coincidental with your post, I located a new artist and began the initial inquiry process yesterday. The artist specializes in portrait and guitar work. I am very hopeful that this one will work out.

I've had fine work done by other artists, including many band logos, instruments, etc. but Dan and Pat will be my first portraits and I want them to be perfect. If the artist accepts the challenge and I like the stencil, I will go ahead and get the tat asap. As you can imagine, the artist has a lengthy wait list. It's not a matter of if I will get the tattoo; it's a matter of when. I'm quite excited and more than a little impatient about it.

Kieran-lee: I like what I can see and envision of your currently desired tattoo.

I also appreciate your cautious nature when it comes to life-long commitments sealed with ink and flesh. That’s wisdom right there.

For me, music is and has always been such a large part of my life and who I am that I have not hesitated to get any of the tattoos I have. The way I see it is, at the time I got the tattoo, whatever was happening that connected me to whatever image I had inked (musical or spiritual), was significant enough that it altered me and thus the course of my life. Why not then create a sort of journal in my own flesh?

Even if I am not into TBK at some point in the future or if Dan turns out to be an alien or Pat a defamer of something holy - Say… for instance… Chulahoma – I will still have experienced these years of my life during which I have been profoundly affected by TBK: the people I have met through shared passion and interest, the city and/or travelling to attend concerts, the other music I have discovered, etc. Like a chain of dominoes, right?

The tattoo cannot become insignificant to me regardless of any present emotion about the subject of the tattoo. Even if the tattoo were to become undesirable to me for some reason, it would be no more changeable than the events in my past that led to its creation. (Okay, slightly more changeable.)

That’s my story, at least, and hey, it’s a good one; it helps a person to not appear so impulsive and unwise.
