So I am currently using 3 fuzz pedals. I built them all myself.

1. Green Russian Big Muff clone
2. Fulltone Soul Bender clone (3 knob Tonebender)
3. Mosrite Fuzzrite clone

The Mosrite is just not doing it for me lately so I'm going to use the enclosure and turn it into something else. Any ideas?

A 2 knob fuzz is ideal because that's how it's drilled right now, but I can easily drill a 3rd hole and add another pot/knob.

I want something kind of extreme. Like Tame Impala type fuzz or something. Sputtery and crazy. Nothing too mild, like a Fuzz Face or something. I want some disaster type fuzz. Thanks.

add one of those cut out things into it so when it overloads you could get it doin like da da da da kinda thing.

i have no clue what so ever about pedals but would be cool if it had a limit where it wouldnt do it then for some fun push it over the limit and it just sounds like it cant handle it. lol good luck squire!

If you're looking for Tame Impala fuzz... well they use the fuzz face. And mild? You're kidding right? Here's Kevin's fuzz( and sexy feet)

The Analogman Peppermint fuzz is a very extreme but still pretty versatile. I like it better than the Sunface.

Ok ok, DanLeary you're right - my fault. Fu-Machu also used a Fuzz Face and it was not mild at all.

Let me explain - you know how a tonebender sort of "starts off" where the Fuzz face tops out? that's all I meant. Fuzz face can be used as a mild fuzz and is used that way by many. But sure, when cranked it can get pretty wild.

Maybe that's what I'll do then. A fuzz face with some mods to make it a bit more over the top.

Thanks to all but I do want to build it myself. So a Peppermint fuzz or Sunface are out of the question. I was just trying to put new guts into a fuzz I've already built, so as to do it on the cheap.

A fuzz face will be perfect. I'll just need to tweak some values to get it sounding good.

My hesitation towards the FF was mainly due to the fact that I already have a Tone Bender clone that I love and use often. And I used to have a Fulltone 69 clone that I built (fuzz face) but sold it because it was a lot like the Tone bender I had, so I would always find myself reaching for the TB instead of the FF and it never got used.

In short, thanks be to all, but especially DanLeary for reminding me that fuzz faces can actually get pretty raunchy.

Np. Are you gonna go with silicon or germanium transistors? Tame impala use the germanium model.

Definitely Ge. I might do a hybrid but at least one of the two trannies will be Ge. Probably both. I dig the woofiness of Germanium.

Yeah I was looking at this. I was also looking at Jordon Bosstone and the Shin ei companion fuzz or whatever it's called. But I've decided to go with the FF for now. It's such a classic circuit, easy to bend/tweak, lots of info out there on the web.

I know you are making your own, but the Zvex Fuzz Factory is the craziest fuzz I have had. You can make it sound like an AM radio crackling.

The Fuzz Factory has a very good reputation. I've heard it has soooo many crazy fuzz sounds in it, but there are so many knobs that once you dial something in that you like - I heard it's hard to dial that same sound back in again. That's just what I heard though, so who knows...

And I don't like spending so much on fuzz pedals when I can build them myself for $50-60 worth of parts.

You nailed it. So many knobs. So many sounds. You can't remember any of them.

*UPDATE- parts ordered. I'm building a Fulltone '69 clone (fuzz face with 4 knobs and an internal trimpot).

Ordered the PCB from Generalguitargadgets.com (late 60's boutique fuzz face)

Then ordered the parts I need from my usual spot - smallbearelec.com

I had to buy a new enclosure because the one I have is too small for a 4 knob pedal. But I'm able to salvage/recycle the switch and the jacks so that saved me a little money.

The parts probably won't arrive for a week or so, and then it'll likely take me a week or so to find the time to build it, but I'll try to post back with pics and whatnot once it's done.
