i think you really can't compare ehiadg to this. this is a more mellow album. kinda like comparing A&R and Brothers.

Can one of you come over here and smack me for not giving Sweany a serious listen before today? I have not been able to tear myself away from his bandcamp site all day. Dang.

You're a true friend, Mac.

"There is only one song I don't dig - The Edges is too corny and too Tom Jones-ish for me at the moment but maybe it'll grow on me. The opening line is something like "the touch of your hand, makes me feel like a man" so yeah... maybe it's tongue in cheek? And I'm taking it too seriously? Whatever. Not a bad song but it's too rich for me at the moment, heh"

Just in case subsequent listenings hadn't made it obvious, I just wanted to point out that the complete lyric is "The touch of your hand makes me feel like a man made over." I'm assuming this was written for his fiancee.

This is one of my early favorites for the great soul vibe - but this is one of those albums that shows me different favorites and uncovers different treasures upon repeated listens.

"The big thing for me, is that I read something on the Nine Mile Records site that said "if you liked Them Shoes you'll LOVE this new album" or something like that. It also said something about how this new album is really rockin'. I think it's a really good album but not nearly as rockin' as EHIADG. This one is more country/soul/southern rock. So maybe that's how my initial impression got all jacked up - because I was expecting something else based on the label's description."

This is exactly why I steer away from direct comparisons to artists/albums/songs on the blog. I don't think any two people hear the same music the same way. Music is largely emotional, from my point of view, and is subjective to the listener's experience. I don't know about anybody else but those "If you like X, you'll love Y" ploys hardly ever work for me.
