I'm a drummer and I've never been impressed by Pat, I've always found him very predictable and not skilled at all.
There's nothing on El Camino that can change my mind at all, in my opinion he's the male version of Meg White. For example, I've never heard/seen a drum roll from Pat...I'm not even sure if he knows the essential drum rudiments.
Find me a drum beat that is more than just average.

You can't be more wrong man. "good" is far more than being able to play a drum roll or knowing stuff about how you are "supposed to" play. Actually I don't think it has anything to do with being good at all. It's the feeling, as it should be with all instruments. And up to "el camino" I think he is one of the least predictable drummer there is. If you don't play/work with that as your goal I'd have to say that you are the bad drummer. For example: White Stripes with a drummer that you seem to think is good would suck bad. "Practice what you preach" Posted 1 year ago #

Speaking from a purely technical standpoint Dan isn't an impressive guitarist either but I'll listen to those two anyday over the souless shit that "virtuosos" like Buckethead and Yngwie churn out. Live is a completely different animal. They have an energy and stage presence that is untouchable. Posted 1 year ago #

I agree with some of your valid points, but if you don't know the rudiments you can't be considered a good drummer. The drum roll is just an example, but it's important, have you ever heard even a single drum roll in a Black Keys song ? Just ask yourself why... Posted 1 year ago #

I don't condsider him a "good drummer" from that perspective. If he was... The black keys would suck. Posted 1 year ago #

do not feed him guys. or there would come some guitar-shredders with statements about Dan's guitar playing. 2Snare-it's not a sport to speak about it that way. i thought it's obvious Posted 1 year ago #

If you don't know what to say because you don't have a clue about drums, go do something else. Posted 1 year ago #

I bet this dude Snare just LOVES Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani. You know, cuz they're so "good" and technical. Such a joke, do we really have to explain this to you? Listen to Little Black Submarines, the beginning, you can hear fret buzz on the acoustic guitar repeatedly. That's not how the guitar is "supposed" to sound, technically. Fret buzz is a "bad" thing. So do you honestly think that Dan/Pat just somehow missed that? It snuck through and made it onto the album? Of course not. While we're on the fucking subject... distortion and feedback? Those are bad too. That's not what a guitar is supposed to sound like. That's all wrong. Now crawl back under your rock you fucking simpleton. You're the worst kind of critic - one without a single cell of creativity in your whole fucking body. Go jerk your drum teacher's cock some more. If you really think that Pat is one of the least predictable drummers, obviously you don't know a lot of drummers... Posted 1 year ago #

OK. First up, I get it. He doesn't play "technically" correct. But that doesn't matter! I sit in a group of my mates and there is one guy playing guitar like a boss. Like he plays classical gas almost flawlessly. Shit is awesome! And I can as a guitarist appreciate the effort that it took to play that that well. But nobody gets it? Nobody cares? They are just like hey nice effort. Then I play johnny cash with 3 chords and a couple of crappy solo notes in there and sing my little tune the best I can and everyone loves it! Simplicity and feeling is the key sometimes! Music has had so many forms that you needn't worry about drum rolls and drum skills! If you want perfect skills go listen to a jazz band with 4 different instruments playing in offset time signatures! All perfect and highly trained! Would you walk into an ancient peoples celebrations and tell them they are doing it all wrong because there technique is all wrong? Because they aren't playing the basics before they play the flourishes? Life isn't perfect. And sometimes the simple stuff can be the best. It's all how hard you work it. Posted 1 year ago #

Ok, so you want a "good" drummer in BK. And apparently in the white stripes to. Let's just say we are all happy that you didn't have anything to say about that. Posted 1 year ago #

I don't know what you mean with good, of course Pat don't have to play like Vinnie Colaiuta or Steve Gadd to be a good drummer. Do you like the way he plays the drums ? Good for you, to each his own, but don't act like what you say is THE TRUTH. Posted 1 year ago #

He's "technically" not wrong though. Pat doesn't play like a drum teacher would like him to. What ya gonna do about it? Yell abuse at him mirby? Shit ain't gonna solve nothing! I put up a reasonable response and haven't heard boo from snare yet? Posted 1 year ago #
