Just read the rolling stone article. It was good and pretty insightful to things. Talked about Dan looking to move to Nashville and build a new studio. They really hated the frank videos. Also evidently Pat was really ticked off when Dan released the solo album and they didn't talk for months. Some surprising things in it.

Dan was a super soccer stud, captain of the high school team. Didn't you guys read the Arthur Magazine article "On the Road With..."

If USA wasn't in the same group as us (ENG) then I reckon you lads would do well in this years World Cup.

I don't know if you guys are interested in football (soccer) but I can see USA being one of the top teams in about 15 years time. USA spends a lot of money on sports and more and more is being pumped into football.

In the UK schools are given less money for sport in favour of Head Teacher pay rises. I can't see the future being so bright for English football.

It's cool that Dan played a bit of nogger. Real mans sport.

That is a brilliant idea. America could learn something from that.

Here are some direct quotes from the article that I found interesting, parentheses are mine adding context:

Pat talking about the scene at Wanee (hippies): ""This is my worst nightmare come to fruition""

Pat's brother talking about the influence of Pat's break-up on Dan's songwriting off of Brothers: ""I think Dan wrote the songs from his own experience. But I think he wrote them for Pat""

On Pat Moving to NYC: ""He bought desgner boots, a $5000 dollar watch, and started hanging out with people like Kings of Leon and Mark Ronson. Auerbach calls him "NYC Pat.""

"Carney estimates they clear almost $2 million dollars a year"

On becoming big: ""They have no use for what Auerbach calls "indie-world" bullshit and make no secret of their desire to play bigger rooms, for more people and more money. Says Carney,"We want to be as big as we can without having to do anything that makes us completely uncomfortable""

On Dan's solo album and Pat's reaction : ""There was only one problem: He didn't tell Carney (that he was putting out a solo album). "I was fucking pissed" said Carney. "Everyone knew but me. I was mad at Dan. I was mad at our manager. I was mad at everybody."

On the Next Girl vid and Warner's involvement (Dan hated it immediately, and Pat grew to hate it, part I'm quoting is Pat's intial reaction: "It's called promotion" Carney says. "It's the first time Warner has ever spent money on us. You shouldn't be complaining." (after more review, this was Pat's response): " Shit is gay."

Now I'd really like to read that article. Not being in the US of A I might have a hard time grabbing it. And didn't nappy say something like there were more articles to be featured in the next RS issues or something?

Wham bam, thank you m'am.

Wow interesting quotes. I may a free sub from TM ticket orders let's see if I get the issue.

I like how they are being very honest. If he didn't like Wanee then he def won't like crowd at moe.down. But hippies are teLly great crowds and a good loyal fan base if you ask me sure there are some bad seeds but it is like that with all types of people.

Good for them wanting to get more money and play bigger rooms good for them as for the 2 new "promo" vids no harm no foul since they aren't the real ones. I thunk they are fun and will help w promotion.

Also when Pat talked about the festival being his worst nightmare I thought he was talking about the lineup they were playing with. Thats the way it seemed in the article

kepnerb, you're right. I don't think he was really talking about the hippies in particular more so jam bands and maybe the 'scene' in general

The complete quote is this: ""As some improvisatory guitar noodling comes wafting over the fence, Carney takes in the scene: "This is my worst nightmare come to fruition.""

Also a funny quote about their set at Wanee: ""When they finish, a sweet little hippie girl in a sundress and flip-flops turns to her friend, rubbing her ears:"That was loud""

Ok, that is a big difference, but the scene he complained about will def still happen at moe.down.

I think Mountain Jam(Gov't Mule's festival) would be a great scene for them, some jam but def a lot of rock there, plus a nice size, good location.

Yeah I remember an interview of theirs on youtube where they are making fun of a picture of the violin player from String Cheese Incident.

haha see that makes sense... some bands in the jam scene are straight noodling with no purpose, I am not a fan of that either, so i can def understand that view.
