Am I the only one who is not completely bowled over by Little Black Submarines or Gold on the Ceiling? To me Sister is the best track on the album - so simple and soulful.
Love it so much I'm whipping up an off-color cover of it.

I dig Gold On The Ceiling, but i'm with ya on your feelings toward the other two. Little Black Submarines is BY FAR my least least favorite Black Keys song, period. Not just just on El Camino, but i think it's the worst thing they've ever done. It's the only song, on any album, that i skip over. Lonely Boy, Gold on the ceiling, money maker, hell of a season, black sub, and stop stop are the standouts for me. Posted 4 months ago #

You're definitely not alone in liking it, but I'm not among those who thinks it's amazing or anything. I'm actually surprised how many people think it's a standout track when, to me, it's one of the less interesting ones. But I guess that's what happens when a band strays so far from their original sound as has happened here, you get to catch a glimpse of what other kinds of music people are into, based not only on whether they like any of it at all, but also specifically which tracks they like. Strange Times - 36 minutes ago I agree with your post. I like Sister but it's not bowling me over. I much prefer Money Maker and Submarines. What I especially like is your insight regarding what can be gleaned about one's underlying musical taste based upon what they like most and what they like least on a record by one of their favorite bands that happen to be in a more experimental (?) phase. @Mr.ssippi A rootsier version of Sister would kill for sure. Mine will be more hard rock/pop-metal P.s. you have the funniest avatar Posted 4 months ago #

Oh and if its not too much inside baseball: the thing that hits it for me about Sister is the production. Guitar panned hard left, BASS panned hard left (almost never done), and that big airy reverberating vocals. Awesome. Posted 4 months ago #

Sister is my favorite too, you can definitely see Danger Mouses' influence in that, along with Stop Stop. Yet Little Black Submarines has this great raw rocking Dan as we had in the olden days of TBK. To date: I've been a fan since early 2002 and I have attended 20 of their concerts and 2 of Dan's solo. I have also met Patrick quite a few times, but never Dan unfortunately. The Black Keys are a part of my soul. Posted 4 months ago #

i do like sister.to be honest, the whole album has finally grown on me. anyone worked on a tab? isnt it capo at the 4th fret? Now baby when I roll, I roll deep; so much soul, I couldn't get much sleep. -*Black Keys Fan Lounge resident Luthier/guitar GEEK*- Posted 4 months ago #

No capo on this one - its straight up a minor. I'm a geek - I read music so I can share a scan of the transcription Posted 4 months ago #

Yeah, Sister is definitely a great track. I don't like Little Black Submarines however; Run Right Back is my favorite track on the album. Pat's hard-hitting forward simple drum beat is amazing on that song(: Posted 4 months ago #

Gotta agree with you Magic, Nova Baby is my favorite on Side B. I'll admit that the first 20 seconds or so sound kinda lame, but after that I think it's got an awesome groove. I also dig Stop Stop quite a bit. Sister is good, but I definitely would choose Nova and Stop over that one. "We run this shit like a Wendy's. We're open for breakfast every morning."
