Since Brothers I constantly hear people talking about the big influence T Rex is. I have never really heard this from Dan and Pat. Just wondering if its only people comparing or are they a big fan? I havent listened to too much T Rex..i will now though

On the NPR podcast of "Howlin' for you" one of the people mention "this isn't T-Rex, it's The Black Keys". Didn't remind me of "T" at all, more of Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll part 2".

Other than the falsetto singing, Everlasting Light reminded me a lot of Mambo Sun by T. rex.

Me too. Instant T-Rex. Not a bad thing at all. "The Slider" never gets old.

My favorite bit about them is they purposely kept Bolan's backing band in dark about new material so they wouldn't "over play" on the records.

I have to believe that "Howlin' for You" is an hommage to "Crimson Moon" by T-Rex (Dandy in the Underworld album). Same guitar sound and very similar riff. "I'm a howlin' wolf for you" is a line from "Telegram Sam" which itself is referencing Howlin' Wolf and his influence on Bolan.

"Everlasting Light" does have similarities to "Mambo Sun" but I think it is definitely its own track.

Everlasting Light is basically the same instrumental track as Mambo Sun. The direction both bands went with it is different, but there is no denying that it's a rip-off.

"i wonder if they’ll release that last verse. i bet he hit the floor on the downbeat, too. RIP"

T-Rex was an excellent band with an incredible sound. They just never made it big in the US (too vampy?) then Bolan became a bloated egomaniac with a serious coke habit. Not sure how you get fat with a serious coke habit, but he did. Dandy in the Underworld was the return to grace, but he died tragically in a car accident.

For a straight up rip off you really should check this link to Crimson Moon
