Now, My Peeps... My bretheren...
I appeal to you... put down those rocks you have aimed and ready to launch at my head. I will do my best to not forget to quote my source the FIRST TIME but in case I ever again do muck this up, can we consider Nerf balls next time? Thanks in advance.
"Black Keys score Nashville’s sole MTV VMA nomination
After a heavy presence at the previous two MTV Video Music Awards shows (Ke$ha, Hayley Williams and Taylor Swift had multiple nominations in 2010, and we seem to remember some sort of kerfuffle between Swift and Kanye West in 2009), it looks like Nashville will be sitting out this year's ceremony - save for the Black Keys.
The newly local blues-rock duo have scored Nashville's sole VMA nomination: their clever clip for "Howlin' For You" is up for best rock video.
The video - which masquerades as a trailer for a sleazy, action-packed B movie - has a good shot at winning, but we'd be surprised if the Keys showed up to the ceremony. They weren't around to pick up the one they won last year for "Tighten Up," and the moonman statuette MTV sent the band in the mail was addressed to the Black Eyed Peas.
We're not the only ones noticing the conspicuous absence of a few Nashville stars on the 2011 ballot. Katy Perry - leading this year's pack with nine nominations - tweeted, "I do miss my...Swifty, (back to dec) Kesha (blow)...in the/any categories #ohmanitstough"
The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards airs at 8 p.m. CT Sunday, August 29 on MTV. Viewers can vote in top VMA categories - including best rock video - at MTV.com."
