The Black Keys are sorry to announce the cancellation of the New Zealand and Australian tour including all appearances at the Big Day Out touring festival as well as a portion of the European tour in March. An arduous year of touring and promotion has drained the band and necessitated time off.

Dan and Patrick wish to thank all of you who have shown such incredible support since the release of ‘Brothers’ and have helped make the album a success.”

Urgh. How to blow some money flying to see them in Sydney, flying back the next day to go to the Big Day Out. Oh well, hope Dan and Pat are better for the rest. Hope they are OK

Wow that really, really sucks. It was always an ambitious itinerary but I think anytime you cancel an entire leg of a tour, let alone two, it's a reflection of mismanagement more than anything else.

Better to cancel than risk sickness or poor shows but that's a pretty major cock-up, imo. The Keys have always been big stuff down under so it's a weighty decision to beg off entirely. This is not their first time round the block when it comes to world tours, so presumably it's the ancillary stuff from hitting it big that was "draining."

That is of course unless there is a better, unpublicized reason for the cancellations.

"Since huge quantities of information can be computer-digitalized and transmitted, music researchers could, for example, swap records over the Net with "essentially perfect fidelity."

thats fucking ridiculous comments! this sucks as much for everyone as it has for me now for ages i guess! and that sucks! i know there was talk of promoting this album twice round but i hoped they would do a solo gig in perth for the second time round but yeh. I had a feeling this was coming.

Not fair on the comments though calling them a bunch of c*&nts is a bit much.

And hell I'm used to being forgotten in Perth i just hope they do come back to play gigs here one day.....

I'd love to hear nappy's thoughts on all of this....

I suppose that proves the point/theory, watching twalight and soundtracking twatlight attracts twats. They obviously aren't true fans, they must be scensters or have only just heard of the band in order to have such a lack of loyalty. I would be absolutely gutted, but obviously those fans don't realise just how much touring the band does and has done since day one. they need to read the artciles from pat's ex about how tiring it is as someone going along with the band, nevermind having to be the band themselves. It sorta disgusts me that there are fans out there who can act like that. I thought TBKs fans would have a lot more respect or at least be cool about it. Mind you most of them have been bred with convict, criminal, genes in their blood

Well, we wondered if they might be getting worn down from the schedule they've been keeping this year. Now we know.

With greater popularity comes greater scrutiny. And more dickheads doing the scrutinizing.

Eh, not like we don't have (more than) our fair share of douchebags in the States. Most of the Australians I know are intelligent and charming people.

I said most.

( Sorry, it was an un-ignorable set-up. I was powerless to resist.)
