You definitely can't fault the guy for wanting to move out of his hometown.

I'm not sure how things work outside of America, but where I come from, all those losers that never left home after high school, well... I make fun of them every time I go back to my hometown for something and bump into one of them working at Subway or something. Hometowns are great and it's great to remember where you came from but you can't be expected, nor is it healthy, to stay there your entire fucking life. I mean, some people make it work, so no offense if anyone here still lives in the town where they were born. Just my opinion. People need to get out and experience life outside of their comfort zone. It builds character.

tbh in the UK this whole "omg he left his hometown and made something of himself! and then came back and married his childhood sweet heart" or vice versa... note an endless amount of romcoms n dramas based around this story. it just seems cheesey n weird. I suppose though the big cities aren't miles apart in england so even if you live in a village somewhere your only like 30 mins away from a decent sized town or city.

i still live in my hometown after uni, but i wouldnt say it was weird. i have plenty of friends who also went to london or maybe leeds (other side of the country) but i dunno it doesnt seem as big a deal here, maybe because the only place thats worthwhile moving to for a "better experience of life" is london (more job opportunities and many many town centres and cultural difference) anyways i use that with caution beacuse imo london is a shithole full of stuck up southern twats who seem to have this weird attitude that northerners live in caves. even though some of the best cities are up north. liverpool for example has pretty much everything you need. an awesome night life, a cultural vibe (won capital of culture 2008) awesome music scene and generally the people are funny and easy going (also there are a lot of dickheads as with any city) the only problem for liverpool is there isn't as many massively high flying jobs as there is in london... but then look at the amount of people moving to london and living in a one bed studio apartment still hoping for that big pay off.

anyways wow hidden agenda rant there apologies, back to the point i think us brits find that whole moving away from hometown thing or at least the emphasis and drama involved in it all a bit!

I've lived all over the country at some point, and I always end up coming back to Ohio. (Columbus)
Second choice would probably be Nashville, or maybe Vancouver. (damn, love those Canadian girls...mmmm....)
