as much as I've felt like they've sounded conceded over the last year or so, this was good honest stuff. Posted 5 months ago #

Yeah, it's really interesting to hear kind of the behind the scenes and what these artists think of this stuff. Posted 5 months ago #

*Conceited Great interview and a very poignant point. If anyone ever said the Keys have sold out, then this is all the evidence they would require to back up their theory. "Our parents got pretty mad at us for NOT taking the money." Come on, fellas. Cash has an extremely alluring smell. If customers buy more doors on average, why would a carpenter create banisters? I actually relate to the boys when it comes to money. I am a business man and this chav right here fucking creams it. I certainly don't dislike the route they've chosen but the sooner people realise that this 'new' Black Keys is all about the money the better. I can't tell you how happy I am that they've found a niche in the pop market. Exploit it. Make money from it. Feed your family with it. People, if you like the album then I'm glad, but don't TRY to like their new stuff. It is not the same band from before. I've now gotten over it and have gone back to rocking Eminem. Hey, my name's Jack. I think Guinness is the most wonderful thing in the world... ...and then the Irish whiskey is poured. *sigh Posted 5 months ago #

Yes I genuinely do, overall. Except for Hell of a Season. It's interesting though because the reasons I like this album are very different from the reasons I started liking the Black Keys in the first place and the reason I like their previous albums. But I guess that would HAVE to be the case because what they're doing now is very different from what they did before. In other words, almost a decade ago I fell in love with this band's music because I was young and into lo-fi bluesy garage rock and such. Now my musical tastes have changed, or perhaps "expanded" is a better word. So I can still pick up what they're putting down and enjoy it. But yeah, it's a different kind of enjoyment. It's not the best writing in the world or anything but I was asked to do a review and after listening to the album for a couple days here's what I came up with... was just trying to keep it short and to the point, a general overview rather than drilling down deeply and discussing all the minor details. Their music has been in movies and ads like forever... How does that have anything to do with how the new album sounds? And why shouldn't they sell their music to these things? I really don't understand that. Does that have anything to do with how the music sounds? Not really... If some big corporation want to give you a shit load of money to use your music that's a win-win. More people hear your music, and you get a shit load of money. Good interview. At least they're honest about the way they handle licensing their stuff. I don't have a problem with bands getting paid to have their songs used in ads etc. Nothing is more annoying than some band or artist who is all high-and-mighty, calling everybody else a sellout, and then a year later you hear one of their songs in an ad. If you can stick to your guns one way or the other, I don't see a problem. "We run this shit like a Wendy's. We're open for breakfast every morning." Posted 5 months ago #

I find it funny that a lot of the hipsters who accuse bands of selling out also revere the Beatles, who had their own Saturday morning cartoon, and had their name and likeness plastered on every product imaginable. Posted 5 months ago #

I do not see bands who let their music be used in FILMS (especially films) or commercials as sell outs. That in my opinion is not what makes them a sell out. What makes a band a sell out is if they change their music in someway that is obviously to please the masses. Not sticking to their own creative guns. It's a subtle thing and easily confused with a band evolving as they grow up and have new things at their finger tips to utilise. It's easy to say this new album may be trying to please the masses, but when you break it down a lot of those songs won't be enjoyed by a lot of people, so in my opinion they haven't sold out. I'm like a child when i hear the black keys on TV or in a game or in a movie i'm like fuck yea someone knows their shit good on them haha. And if I was in their position i certainly would not be turning down cheques when i need some money for scran "When the sweats dried in, It smells like Rock n Roll" Posted 5 months ago #
