so it was brought to my attention by a friend, that i am a Dan-whore.

wtf? Dan-whore?

yes.

it was brought up because i was bragging to a friend that i just bought an old Green Sovtek muff. "oh, like Dan from the keys uses?"
i fumbled."ermmmmmm well ya, but all of my favorite players use muff pedals, or clones of muff pedals.."
"dude.......YOU ARE A DAN-WHORE! look at your gear and compare it to his setup!"
he had me there.
i have a JD tele cloned to match Dan's, a Harmony H47 cloned to match Dan's.A boss tr-2 trem pedal, a green sovtek muff, and possibly ANOTHER guitar that will be cloned like Dan's.
sad to say,

^that is the background on my cellphone.
he even called me out on dressing like Dan, BUT in my defense, i live in wisconsin. thats how we dress 'round the midwest.
then he pulled out the man-crush card........DO I HAVE A MAN CRUSH ON DAN?!?!
no, no i dont. but musically, he tops my list right now. im into classic rock. my parents were teens in the 60's so i was brought up in that mindset. all of my guitar idols now are crickety old men now. i got into heavy metal for a bit, then i started to get bored with music. one day i heard thickfreakness and my mind=blown. the keys are a band i can listen to EVERY SINGLE track in their discography and not be dissappointed. and like i said, he seems like a guy who would be cool as hell to hang out with.

SO WHO ELSE DARES TO STEP FORWARD?

WHO IS A DAN-WHORE?

i think even, compared to a few people on the forum like mirbs or others who know even more about the keys than i do, i rank pretty low on the scale.

Now baby when I roll, I roll deep;
so much soul, I couldn't get much sleep.

I'm a Dan whore even though I suck at guitar. I go to bed at night clutching my pillow and hoping I wake up next to a H77 or an Ibanez SG.

Also, didn't know you were a Wisconsinite. Where you at?

Think I almost became one. But luckily for me I've had a green big muff for doooooooonkeys years. I do have an old H47 with Bigsby which is currently my go to guitar, and that was helped by Dan having one (I have a few old acoustic Kay's and was already getting into collecting old american guitars, but the Dan-whore in me made it easy to scoop that particular guitar up). Not yet modded it to match Dan's gat, bar the bigsby, as I'm enjoying it as is, but have the pups to do it

At this stage I'm still heavily influenced by him & the keys,....not yet full dan-whore mode. O_O

Now this is an interesting thread! First I thought it might be a 12-step. Then I thought someone was collecting resumes. I am puzzled by what precisely a "Dan-whore" is but it's still sure fun to read.

I love the Black Keys, and think everything they've released or been involved with is great, but I'm not a Dan whore haha....I'm kinda like that with Jimi Hendrix though.

LMFAO....

I am a pat-whore. Mainly because I met him so many times and I have his email along with being friends with him on FB. I've gone to see him after concerts in recent times and he recognized me (but couldn't remember my name)

Either way, I love em' both.

To date: I've been a fan since early 2002 and I have attended 20 of their concerts and 2 of Dan's solo. I have also met Patrick quite a few times, but never Dan unfortunately. The Black Keys are a part of my soul.

Dan could set fire to a children's day care and I'd call it art.

But you know, when the ammegedon comes, and thy pile up the bodies...I will be in the cool pile and many of you will be in the "suck" pile. That's it.

Here's an idea to be uber hip: be a whore for whoever DAN is a whore for. John Lee Hooker? Junior Kimbrough?

That's some whoring

I'm not hearing much Hooker or Kimbrough in Brothers or El Camino. What influences do you find in these? Serious question.

Nova Baby, Sister, have Junior written all over them dude! What are you talkin' bout?!

Serously though, it definitely lacks those old influences. I dig it though, for what it is. Except for LBS.

I'm on a Most Things Haven't Worked Out binge, myself. It hasn't left my cd player in a about 3 or 4 days.

Done Got Old

Well, I done got old
I can't do the things I used to do
I'm a old man

Well, I done got old
I can't do the things I used to do
I'm a old man

Remember the day, Babe
Now dead and gone
Days I could love you
So many times
Now things have changed
And I done got old
I can't do the things I used to do
I'm a old man

I don' look like I used
Can't walk like I used
Can't love like I used
Now things have changed
And I done got old
I can't do the things I used to do
I'm a old man

None of this is meant to sound dickish..
I'm just wondering what the significance of the lyrics of Done Got Old have to do with this here thread.
Is it: You feel the "Keys" have Done Got Old, and Things Aint Like They Used To Be (might be a bit more appropriate in this case)
Is it: You realizing that "Hey!, maybe there is some Junior influence on El Camino!?.. The words Dead and Gone being payed tribute by TBK naming a new song Dead And Gone. (I'm kinda doubtin' this one)
Is it: No... Surely, you dont think Done Got Old is from the album i named in my previous post.

Clue me in Mr. Johnson!
