....the anticipation, the arguments, the joy, the laughter etc etc

So here we go, the first little snippets of gossip (supposedly straight from the horses mouth)

ThisisablogaboutTheBlackKeys.com link to the two pieces of gossip nothing more as far as I know(because i haven't searched. Saw this and came straight here

We got in the studio last week and we recorded a little bit and worked on some new stuff but now we gotta go on tour for a month,” Auerbach tells ABC News Radio. “It’s really hard to write on tour and we’re going to Europe so it’s extra, extra difficult. But we have some time blocked out and we’re gonna hopefully record a new record before the year’s up.
— Dan Auerbach

While discussing the sound of the new tracks, Auerbach tells ABC News Radio that he feels that “some of it sounds like metal.” Drummer Patrick Carney joked that the new album will be “sludge rock,” while Auerbach added that the forthcoming release is “a little schizophrenic right now. I have no idea where it’s going to end up.
— Dan and Pat

The original source. Just the same as whats posted up there but have a look for yourselves

Here we go! Beware of the statements! Remember how Patrick said "El Camino" was "the most rock and roll record we have ever done" and it's pop. I won't know what it's about until I listen to it.

Please oh please Dan and Pat follow your musical instincts, follow your guts and play from the heart in that studio. Shut yourselfs from everything else and show us why we are proud to be fans of The Black Keys.

Also, Schizophrenic sounds great!

It's gonna be loud, are you ready? -Dan

Yeah i s'pose

My initial reaction was the "metal" sound might mean more guitar or a stripped down sound. But it could change and morph as they work on it.

will wait and see

im really looking forward to hearing what they consider..."metal". i grew up on sabbath and motorhead, so

IMO, magic potion is their "heaviest" album release to date. id REALLY dig to see something in that light.

Now baby when I roll, I roll deep;
so much soul, I couldn't get much sleep.

I'm hoping "metal" means this album is going to be full of the dirt and grime that was missing on El Camino. I don't know if anyone has listened to the new Ty Segall Band album, but if they made something similar to that I'd be very happy.

Sounds like this album will be more of a magic potion/attack+release type album. Whatever it is i hope it's good, was a little disappointed with el camino.

Hmm. Well, chimes can be made out of metal. Right? Maybe it's an album of chime-rock. I'd love to hear TBK get into the fat crunchy cords like Jeff the Brotherhood use. Saw them at The Grog Shop in Cleveland last night, man what a great show. Dan did produce their latest album ya know, so there's that spin on things.

Good news indeed....but remember when nappy said that they had an initially mixed version of thickfreakness that sounded like "glam rock"? well maybe they'll go back to that

I'm very excited. I do hope it's a little less produced than El Camino. I'm also glad there's been no mention of Danger Mouse so far. He did a bang up job with A&R, but didn't pull off El Camino. I'd love for this new album to introduce some songs they could play as a 2 piece band live. That doesn't neccecarily mean the songs have to be simple, a lot of A&R songs had a lot of shit going on in them, yet they still sound amazing played live as a 2 piece. I'm confident Dan and Pat will surprise me once again, I do still listen to half of El Camino(x

I agree with the less produced statement. I think that's my biggest problem with El Camino, its over produced. I think it would've been a lot better if it sound shittier, if that makes any sense...

Maybe El Camino was the bands "nevermind" and this next album will be their "In Utero" if you get what I mean. Less production, harder and heavier, fewer pop tunes and radio friendly songs, and an all around better album in my opinion.

I think imma remain optimistic for the new album for now

.The "schizophrenic" or "metal" sound
.Playing a resonator now on stage
.And this quote from Dan(which will probably be an old one!?? but new for me)...."At some point you have to put the guitar down, stop practising and read a book. Just try to get influenced by something other than music. And I think that [ethos] has helped me. I don’t really practice any more; I like the feeling of picking up a guitar and being like, ‘Whoa, how do I work this thing again?"
