Apparently (if you believe what you read in forums ) The White Stripes visited the Black keys while they were recording at Muscle Shoals

See http://littleroom.whitestripes.net/index.php?showtopic=66128

Imagine if they recorded together! I doubt they would, but now days who knows. Ha, after all these years of comparisons...

The Black Keys are lightyears cooler than The White Stripes. I respect Jack White and his "ability" but his side projects are all boring. The Stripes did some good stuff, but The Raconteurs? The Greenhornes were far better than The Raconteurs. And then that other project where he stole that chick from The Kills? The Kills were far better than that band.

If The Stripes DID show up during The Black Keys recording sessions, it was only so they could see how to make a REAL fucking rock and roll record.

big fat THAT

I would love a TBK/Stripes collab. I think they both would have a lot to bring to the table obviously.

Stringy,

What made you dislike the Dead Weather (the one with the Kills singer)? I agree that the Racounteurs are boring but I liked the Dead Weather a lot

I've never understood the comparisons between the Keys and Stripes. They both consist of two members, but the similarities end there. Pat is a great drummer, and, well, Meg is not even good. Not to be a prick, it's just so blatantly obvious. And Dan and Jack White, each great in their own right, are so very different in their styles. And don't get me wrong, i really like the White Stripes, and would love to see them. If you haven't yet caught the film It might get loud, i suggest checking it out. It has Jack White, The Edge, and some dude named Jimmy Page (much older now, with long white hair, but still shreds) explaining where they came from, how there styles developed, and jamming a bit. It's worth a run through. Oh, and as for the Raconteurs, i disagree. The wife and i saw them in Pitt in Aug of 08', and they were phenomenal. Their album, Consolers of the Lonely,is good. Too each his own i guess. I saw The Kills open for The Black Keys in Toledo of 08', and was so glad when that shit was over. I compared it to a plane crashing into a derailed train of orphans. It was a horrible show. So, no, i am not a fan of the Dead Weather. The idea of a new Stripes record is nice. Looks to be a busy summer in 2010!

I got a letter this mornin',(what do you reckon it read?),it said the gal you love is dead...

I won tickets to see the dead weather in Manchester UK, was an ace show, it helped i was smashed like, but was brilliant. im more of a fan of Jack White n what he tries to do than anyone particular project, would like to hear a solo album similar to fly farm blues. as for them bein a comparison, its like saying the eagles r the same as dire straits sorta similar countryesque sound to rock n roll but totally different. a collaboration could be massively interesting, but i dont think there would be enough room in the studio for dan n jack lol. altho they do have a similar recordin technique in terms of speed n vintage! lets see wot 2010 n beyond brings us. im already excited bout the new album.. wanna hear some teasers!

Many things to reply to-

Meg White: I don't care if she's a good drummer or not. She's cute and I don't ask for much from my drummers - she can keep the beat just fine while Jack goes berserk on his guitar. Watch the DVD "Under Blackpool Lights" if you want to see/hear the White Stripes in tip-top form.

Jack's Side Projects: It sounds like everyone who disagrees with me has cited a live show as their proof. Live shows are great, but the albums are what you own and listen to frequently. ie- How many times have you listened to a Black Keys album versus how many times have you seen them live? Apples and Oranges son, apples and oranges. I'm not disputing their live shows, I'm just saying the albums either bore or annoy me to tears. Dead Weather sounds unfocused and wishy washy. Jack doesn't need to step back and blend in, he needs to shred in the spotlight. That's his thing, and that's what works for me.
This is all just my opinion of course (not that I need to point that out). I'm not telling you who to like, I'm just shooting from the hip about what I dig and don't dig. Take it as you will.

TBK/Stripes project? I hope I never live to see the day... =(

stingybrim-i agree, under Blackpool lights is a great DVD. What an energetic show! Looking back on my previous post i was a little hard on Meg. She holds her own for what they do. And she is cute (especially drumming barefoot with red toe nails in "Blackpool"). So i'm fine with her i guess. But i do recommend giving "Consolers" by the Raconteurs a listen if you know anyone who has a copy. Jack White and Brendon Benson sharing vocals and guitar leads works well. The drumming is solid (drummer from Queens of the stoneage) and bass is nails (dude from greenhorns).

There was this rumor awhile back that Meg was a robot. The rumor has died down, but I still think she is. She isn't the best drummer, but she is 50% of T.W.S. and she brings that whole mystical 'is she Jack's sister or ex-wife' thing to the band. Plus, she put up with his shit.

I have seen both TBK and The White Stripes in concert several times and I've seen The Racounteurs once. I've never left a TBK show disappointed. I can't say that for any band that Jack White's been in. I agree with StingyBrim about Jack shredding in the spotlight. That's his thing, and he does it well.

As far as any collaboration goes, I would love, no, LOVE to see a collaboration between these two bands.

KeysNskis, why?

From my perspective, these bands are too closely related (not nearly as closely related as critics relate them) to make for an interesting collab. Blakroc was somewhat interesting because the styles were quite different.

Well. I don't know. Could be interesting, but could be bad as well... But it's nice to hear they visit each other in the studio anyway.

I dig the White Stripes as well, and do like the Racontuers (by the way, the drummer hasn't played with QotSA, he's been in the Greenhornes too). One thing that annoys me is that Jack seems to take himself much too serious sometimes, and in my opinion, this is a terrible thing to do.

And I want to reply to that whole "Is Meg a good drummer or not"-thing: Not to be blasphemous, but Dan has not the "best" technique either. Hey, and don't get me wrong here. I LOVE what the guy does! But when music is good, it's good because of the emotions it creates and not how fast or precise any member of the band plays. There's no such thing as "best" or "worst". Music is a deeply subjective thing. If you're into Steve Vai etc., fine, then that's your cup of tea. But in my opinion, Megs playing fits right in the White Stripes music. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.

Wham bam, thank you m'am.
