well, lately i have been no stranger in voicing the issues i have with the "2012 Black Keys". i am not the only one.

i guess my MAIN issue are their setlists. this BS "hey lets only play our mainstream hits for all of the newbie fans who have no idea we used to play dirty blues." i know thats obviously not the case, but i am a diehard keys fan. Before i heard the keys, all of my favorite bands were old, defunct, or just didnt have the spark anymore. thickfreakness hit me like a ton of bricks, and every album exponentially after that.
it took me awhile to warm up to brothers and El Camino, but eventually, they grew on me.
they have, 9-10 albums, and INSTEAD of peppering in a few of their goodies, they choose to play not only songs from brothers and el camino, BUT THE EXACT SAME SONGS EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. no. thats not how ya do it.
ive said it before, they have an entire catalog of eargasm inducing songs. throw in some classics. id like to image that the roof would blow off the joint if they opened up with 'when the lights go out', the flame, or threw in something like no trust, grown so ugly, just a little heat, JUST GOT TO BE, remember when side b, elevator, aeroplane blues, SOMETHING.
they dont even play stack shot billy or 10AM automatic anymore. ill be honest, that PISSES ME OFF.
if they would just come out and say, "we dont want to be associated with the blues anymore. we are moving away from our blues past and are moving toward pop music, radio friendly hits, and songs with licensing in mind because to us being musicians is writing throw away lyrics to appeal to casual mainstream teens..." it would give me closure. the ball is in the black keys court as they begin working on their new album.

NOW TO THE REAL POINT.
i was discussing this exact topic with a friend who is also a major keys fan. a major black keys fan who also happens to play the drums-and has for the past 15 years.

believe it or not he totally agrees with me.

and unless you have a solution to something-generally speaking-you are just bitching. I dont want to just be sitting here bitching; so we are gonna do something about it.

the old adage-You want something done right-YOU GOTTA DO IT YOURSELF.

PRACTICE.TONIGHT.730.

updates will surely follow.

Now baby when I roll, I roll deep;
so much soul, I couldn't get much sleep.

^^^^Where is that?

I saw Purgatory Hill(they're a semi local band) a month ago and they were great. Also, their guitarist was half of Timbuk3, the one hit wonders that did "My future's so bright".

so last night's jam session, overall speaking was a success.

ive known my drummer for about 6 years now and he is a drummer, period. all the guy does is drum. phenomenal skills. been playing drums for 15 years, ever since he was 6 years old, the guy has gotten lessons and has been involved in music programs 24/7.

we had planned to get together and play early black keys material, but we ended up spanning their catalog lol. we jammed in his basement/studio, so there were no time or noise constrictions.

within the first couple hours, we were really just trying to read each other's musical characteristics. ill be completely honest and say that i dont jam with alot of other musicians. at this point in my life id say im a casual player seein as how i usually just noodle in my free time or try to play along with the tracks. i realized that if i ever plan on playing guitar seriously, i really need to buckle down on my practicing. within those first couple hours i was really struggling with staying in tempo, but after i warmed up-the planets aligned and we started ripping it up.

we got through all of thickfreakness minus i cry alone, most of rubber factory and all of magic potion. strange times, and i insisted we play psychotic girl.we tried to play howlin for you, but i kept messing it up. the last two songs we played were ten cent pistol and i got mine. id say we were rockin out till atleast 1230-1am. then we actually realized what hour it was and called it a day.

the only bummer about this scenario, is that however fun it was, he told me that he is already committed full time to another band, and im cool with that. he said he definitely would not be opposed to getting together to hone our chops, but it would be on a limited schedule on his behalf.
IMO, its gonna work better that way because, ill be honest, there were some embarrassing and frustrating moments on my behalf last night. like i said, im a casual player. im alot better at fixing guitars than i am playing them lol. i cant even sing while playing yet. so, im gonna sit here and continue to hone my chops. he let me borrow an old mic so im gonna start recording my progress and sharing it with you guys.

we didnt record anything last night because we had to half ass it through a few songs- being our first practice session and all.
