Thought this would be a good topic to get going. I've had a lot recently that I've been excited about.

I got Embryonic by The Flaming Lips for Christmas and really like it. When I sat down to listen all the way through it reminded me of being 15 again and hearing Dark Side of the Moon for the first time.
Also got Merriweather Post Pavillion by Animal Collective. Amazing stuff.

These guys are both pretty far off from Keys type of music so I'd be interested to hear opinions from anyone who's heard these.

The Black Angels. They've got a new album coming out early next year. Love those guys.

Other than that I've been listening to Drummer and Royal Bangs a lot. Also The Roots, and The Beatles (Revolver, Rubber Soul, Sgt Peppers, White Album, etc).

I liked MPP by Animal Collective a lot too. I was a little leary at first about its hipster/pitchfork vibe but I think the album lived up to a lot of the hype.

I haven't gotten a chance to hear any of Animal Collective's old stuff, but if you can check out Panda Bear's Person Pitch, It's from one of the guy's from Animal Collective. I liked that more than MPP, it has a real cool Brian Wilson sound on it.

I'll check it out. I started digging these guys when they put out We Breed Champions, but that album is very raw compared to their latest "Let It Beep". They're both actually raw albums (that's their style), but their 1st album had a lot of crazy areas where things all melted down and came to a slow confusing burn. They've got more focus on Let It Beep and I really dig it. They put on a great live show too.

Lately I've been really diggin' lo-fi stuff by satanstompingcaterpillars (pre-Black Moth Super Rainbow) and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Really cool music imo. Casiotone has like four Daytrotter sessions so maybe check those out.

I also thought MPP and Embryonic were sweet.

Lately ive gotten into the Wu Tang Clan, Mos Def , and MF Doom. Also Mulatu Astatke & The Heliocentrics album released late last year is still being played alot on my ipod. Definitely give it a listen. Really looking forward to the new release from the Germany based band The Whitefield Brothers..should be really good. Mixes music from middle east, asia , and africa with funk and soul.
