I can tolerate the SRV hate, but dragging the Tube Screamer into it is just uncalled for.

as a lot of you guys said, he is an extremely guitarist. but, his music doesn't hit the spot for me. this goes the same for john mayer. and i think joe bonamassa is everything that i would not like to see in a blues artist. he's talented but i never can fully groove to his music. i don't feel the vibe that feel from dan and pat. is music is too "normal" sounding to me. he just bores me with his music. but with tbk, i hear an obscure bluesy guitar grooving with wu-tang-like drums and a soul singer's voice, all melted into rock n roll.

If that's what you really believe then I don't think you understand Dan's reasons for making music at all. I don't think he is intrested at all in playing 10 minutes guitarsolos. That's not what TBK or Dan are about.I'm sure that if he wanted to and would do nothing then go through and play and copy guitarsolos of Albert,BB and Freddie King and some Hendrix and Stevie Vaughan he could outplay Joe B in his own style..But what's the point in even wanting to sound like that? I think Dan is a far better songwriter then Joe B,not only that but also a player with a much cooler guitartone, with cooler guitars and amps and with a much, much better voice.Facts are facts, there,I've said it

And I couldn't agree with you more. I feel the music coming from Dan and Pat more than most other bands, and that's clearly because they feel it as well. And I agree about the songwriting as well, Dan & Pat are much better at songwriting. I have to give respect to Joe B. and I think he'll find his own sound soon enough. Cooler guitars? That's just a matter of taste, I think they both play some very cool guitars, Dan definitely has a more eclectic selection, but Joe's amp's are pretty damn sweet as well. I think I was being pissy due to the unneeded and unwarranted SRV bashing. I'm gonna see TBK's in a couple of weeks, 9th row, center, and I cannot wait. I skipped a chance to see Joe B to see this concert. I think you can tell where my priorities are.
If you get a chance, listen to Joe Bonamassa The Ballad of John Henry, it's his "Brothers"

The Ballad of John Henry... I actually kind of dig this tune.

As for saying Joe's a better guitarist... I don't know about that. "Better" is such a broad subjective term. Joe has a speed advantage, he's more about accuracy and more precise bends. Probably knows more music theory than Dan. Different styles though. Dan can play a bass line on top of the melody. Live version of Goin Home was incredible. Maybe there's a song out there of his that I haven't heard, but as far as I am concerned... Joe can't do that. Dan's blues licks are also more his own, and his influences are more obscure artists, where Joe's lead guitar playing really abuses the influences every guitarist and your mother has. Joe can play some Page and Hendrix note for note, but who cares?

I don't understand why people are impressed with speed accuracy and precision. Anyone can learn to play like that. It's like doing sit ups and curls, you practice a straight forward lick over and over again like a robot until it's perfected. My friend is a shred guitarist, he practices these runs out of this John Petrucci book every day, starting slow and building up his speed over time. BORING! Dan's blues licks sound more interesting, even if they are slower and sloppier.

Uh... why is everyone hating on the tube screamer?

I don't get the tube screamer hate either. Next up is Big Muff malaise.......
And, yup, playing superfast with accuracy does not equate to emotion or feeling the music, which is why most people listen or play. I try to both, much better at the first.
Not too many people can match BB King's emotion or feel, and he is very conservative in his note playing, but he can say more with 3 notes than Yngwie can say with 300.
I like Dan's take on blues playing, it's evolved and changed, but you can still hear it.
Jimmy Page is probably my favorite guitarist, and he's been accused of being sloppy a little more than a few times, and I'm cool with that, as he probably is too.

For me it is because all those wannabeestevies use one with a strat.
Also because it takes away much of your playing dynamics and lowend in your tone.

It just depends on how you use it, man. (note: I'm no Stevie wannabe and don't play a Strat..)
Anyway, keeping the drive low, tone down, and the volume up can do some sweet things with the right amp. It can also do a pretty good tube overdrive "feel" without ear shattering levels.
Just my opinion, of course.

Wow. I guess to each his own, I can say personally that Stevie Ray is the sole reason I started playing the guitar, I felt and still feel each and every note the man played. This is comparing apples to oranges, and music is not about who is "better" otherwise we would all be members of a Steve Vai forum(Phenominal but just doesn't do anything for me). Some people like the taste of apples some people prefer oranges, but to sit around and bash our kin(musicians) is just shit to me. I don't care what you play, I don't care who you listen to, I truly don't give a shit what effects pedals you use; if you are playing something that you love and makes you happy, I have respect for you and your music (though I might not like or connect with it)

P.S. August 27th next month marks 20 years to the death of SRV, I am fortunate enough to be playing a memorial show with some amazing bands in his honor.

Oh and for all you who say he faked it(wow) listen to his rendition of little wing. Seriously.
